The District Sales Manager is responsible for leading a high performing sales team comprised of direct sales associates. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful achievement of sales, operating profit, and market share objectives within a defined North American District. The District Sales Manager will define, develop, and manage the implementation of sales strategies across 2 defined channels: Multi-Unit Renovation, and Repair – Maintenance – Improvement (RMI).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Hires and trains local territory managers and staff
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules, territories, and performance of our 10 MidWest territory managers across TN, OH, MI, IN, West VA, and Western PA
  • Develops Territory Managers, Business Development Managers, and Business Development Representatives through coaching and effective leadership
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy


Essential Job Duties

  • Provides leadership and guidance directly to Territory Managers, Business Development Mangers, Business Development Representatives, and Independent Sales Agencies
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key customers at the leadership level and maximizes opportunities to provide valuable insights
  • Plays an active role on the Sales Leadership Team taking on special assignments/projects as needed; collaborates with Peers responsible for Field Sales to ensure optimal execution at the district level
  • Collaborates with Marketing to shape the strategic direction and leads the effort within the district to develop a robust plan designed to improve profitability and increase share across all channels
  • Provides oversight and direction regarding decisions on product lines affecting assigned channels including product planning, pricing, forecasting, and deletions
  • Participates/leads the hiring, coaching, development, and retention of Team
  • Ensures optimal market coverage for all customers, modifies as needed throughout the year
  • Cultivates and fosters an environment of high performance through performance management, employee development, career progression, and rewards and recognition
  • Responsible for keeping senior leadership informed of sales activities in the district to ensure they are knowledgeable of relevant issues, including business trends, distribution patterns, competitive practices, and product performance
  • Develops and implements sales strategies and programs that lead to strategic account acquisition, retention, or increased share of the customer’s business. Creates sales plans that include customer analysis, account opportunities, strategic initiatives, and measurable outcomes
  • Manages budgets and uses resources and programming judiciously to maintain and increase sales and gross margins with strategic account customers


Management

  • Leads by example in all staff and customer dealings in person, on the phone, and in written communication
  • Conducts regular staff touch bases to provide individual feedback, assignment status, goal review, and coaching. Uses company tools such as the GROW model or EPNs as needed to address sub-standard work performance
  • Recognizes staff for superior customer service, goal accomplishment, or other satisfactory work performance
  • Supports and adheres to company policies and procedures, most especially those commonly challenged in the workplace such as dress code, attendance, professionalism, and productivity. Seeks supervisor and HR partnerships in addressing issues as needed. Approaches all employment matters with a solution oriented, professional, and legally compliant mindset


Other

  • Travel as needed – 50%
  • Must reside within 30-40 miles of a major airport to facilitate cadenced regional travel

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or its GED equivalent and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field or the equivalent in related work, with a preference for those with an MBA
  • 6 or more years’ experience with sales and related functions (Preference to those with 8 or more years’ experience with Plumbing, sales, and related functions)
  • 3 or more years of experience with sales management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Aptitude for mathematical operations and numerical analysis
  • Use computers, photocopiers, scanners, phone systems and meeting and virtual platform sharing relative to the needs of the job
  • Minimum keyboarding skills of 40 words per minute
