The Director of Product at SmugMug will be a strategic leader responsible for guiding product development, design, data science, and merchandising operations. Reporting to the General Manager of SmugMug, the Director will drive product strategy, align cross-functional efforts, and empower teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences. This role will significantly impact both day-to-day product execution and the longer-term product vision, with a focus on achieving SmugMug's overarching business objectives.
Awesome is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $147,000 - $227,000. This position is also remote-friendly, and as such, compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Various factors, such as defined competency leveling and geographic location, will determine the final compensation for this role.

Your Opportunity:
- Product Vision and Strategy
- Collaborate with the General Manager to shape and refine the product vision, aligning with SmugMug's strategic goals and customer needs.
- Lead the development and execution of product initiatives, prioritizing those that drive customer growth, engagement, and retention.
- Effectively communicate the product vision and strategy through compelling storytelling, ensuring alignment and inspiration across teams and stakeholders.
- Identify and lead high-impact initiatives to close strategic gaps and capitalize on growth opportunities.
- OKR Establishment and Accountability
- Set Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the product management, design, and data teams to drive alignment and accountability across product development streams.
- Ensure the stream-aligned teams have well-defined and impactful OKRs contributing to SmugMug's business objectives.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 7-8 individual contributors, including Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, and Merchandising Operations.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Proactively assess talent, address skillset gaps, and align team development strategies with organizational needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key cross-functional partners to ensure seamless alignment of product initiatives with market demands, customer feedback, and technical capabilities.
- Serve as a key driver of cross-functional success, promoting effective communication and mutual support across teams.
- Proven experience in a product leadership role, preferably at a Director level or equivalent for an e-commerce software company.
- Strong track record of developing and executing product strategies that align with business goals and customer needs.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and data science.
- Demonstrated expertise in setting and managing OKRs, focusing on delivering measurable business outcomes.
- Excellent collaboration skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience teams.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and talent development.
- Excellent storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and compellingly.
