The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) for the Western US and Canada Division is critically positioned to help advance the People Team’s initiatives by supporting the Human Resources Director (HRD), Associate HR Director (AHRD), HR Manager (HRM) and WUSCAN Division HR team to implement and execute key HR programs and initiatives critical for attracting, developing, deploying, and managing a diverse and geographically disparate workforce. The Western US and Canada division (WUSCAN) is vital to The Nature Conservancy’s mission, requiring agile teams and structures to support diverse business units. This 600-person division spans 11 Western states and the country of Canada with HR needs that are complex, varied, and strategic.

The HRG is responsible for administering and supporting HR systems, programs, tools, procedures, and plans aligned with TNC SOP's and HR practices to client groups in the Western U.S. They will provide guidance and support to staff at all levels of the organization on various HR matters across the employee lifecycle by utilizing working knowledge of U.S. and organizational HR best practices.
Roles And Responsibilities
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $62,500 - $91,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.

Roles And Responsibilities
- Primary contact for general HR inquiries to designated client groups across the Western US providing the necessary support and triaging requests up to the appropriate WUSCAN divisional team member.
- Builds and maintains strong, collaborative and consultative relationships with client groups and across the People Team.
- Collaborate with various People Team partners including Central Benefits, Central Recruiting, and HRCCC, among others, to enhance service delivery, drive change, and streamline processes.
- Ensures timely and accurate communication of pertinent information with client groups and WUSCAN divisional team members.
- Partners with WUSCAN HR leadership to support and implement regional, divisional, and organizational HR initiatives and projects.
- Communicates People Team policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring alignment with organizations standards and any state or provincial requirements.
- Prepares reports, dashboards, and analysis as needed or as requested by HR leadership to support data-driven decision making.
- Processes HR transactions in Workday ensuring data accuracy and compliance.
- Serves as a Workday subject matter expert coaching employees and managers on business processes, ensuring data integrity, and supporting ongoing system improvements.
- Manages full cycle recruitments for seasonal positions in grades 1–3, including job posting, resume screening, interviewing, selection and onboarding.
- Provides guidance regarding job design, job descriptions, grade levels, and compensation utilizing expertise of TNC policies and divisional best practices. May co-design offer terms with hiring managers and recruiters to ensure equity.
- Ensures a consistent and welcoming onboarding process across the division in conjunction with Business Unit leadership and the People Team.
- Supports the annual Performance Partnership Process by providing guidance to staff on all phases of the cycle and assists the HRM in managing the end-to-end process.
- Coordinates trainings and workshops, communications, and follow-up. May facilitate sessions as needed.
- Keep current with relevant US employment law and assist managers and staff with interpretation and compliance.
- Will travel and work non-standard business hours as needed to accommodate clients in different time zones.
- Bachelor’s degree or 3 years HR-related work experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: database management and spreadsheet software; constructing and producing reports; data input, manipulation and analysis.
- Experience advising on HR-related questions and problems with employees and managers.
- Broad understanding of fundamental HR concepts, processes, and services.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care and discretion.
- Experience working with MS Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, dashboards, and HR databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication, active listening, and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability and comfort developing trusting relationships.
- Proven ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
- Multilingual skills.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
- Preference for candidates located in the Western U.S. business units.
