Duration: 4 to 8 month long Co-Op


Location: Remote Toronto


Profile

Responsible for solving complex business problems and surfacing actionable insights through modern AI workflows, including statistical modeling, generative AI, agent-based systems, and real-time analytics. The data scientist will contribute to the organization’s data and AI infrastructure and support senior leadership with intelligent insights, reports, and experimentation to guide decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Understands business processes, decision workflows, and the information needs of business unit heads and service managers
  • Translates business needs into analytics, automation, or AI/ML requirements to drive executive decisions and efficiency
  • Proactively mines structured and unstructured data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities
  • Designs and runs experiments to evaluate hypotheses and discover key relationships in large datasets
  • Leverages large language models (LLMs), autonomous agents, and prompt chaining tools such as LangChain and LangGraph for intelligent data-driven solutions
  • Researches and applies state-of-the-art techniques in ML, NLP, and generative AI
  • Trains and fine-tunes foundation models where required; establishes evaluation frameworks for continuous learning
  • Visualizes insights and builds intuitive, dynamic dashboards and reporting tools
  • Supports product teams with data-backed recommendations on new features or enhancements
  • Collaborates with UX designers and frontend developers to create intelligent data and AI interfaces
  • Contributes to knowledge-sharing, documentation of best practices, and peer enablement in data science and AI

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, transformers, or agent-based workflows is a strong asset
  • Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI, Hugging Face, or vector databases is a plus
  • Solid understanding of machine learning principles and generative AI applications
  • Strong knowledge in predictive modeling and statistical inference
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets
  • Comfortable working in agile environments with modern cloud and AI tooling
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Experience

  • Strong foundation in ML, statistics, and generative AI — demonstrated via academic or project experience
  • Prior co-op, internship, or work experience in data science, ML engineering, or AI/LLM projects is a plus
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Azure, GCP, or AWS is a plus
  • Understanding of modern AI libraries and frameworks like PyTorch, scikit-learn, numpy, transformers, etc.
  • Familiarity with data engineering, streaming, or pipelining workflows

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields


Compensation:

The Ontario pay range for this position is $30.00–33.00 an hour. In determining pay, we will consider the successful candidate's experience, skills, knowledge, and other job-related factors.
