We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Controller to oversee the financial operations of our multi-entity organization.
Position Summary
The Controller will be responsible for the accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and compliance functions for three childcare centers and one management company. This includes full-charge bookkeeping duties, such as maintaining accurate records, processing transactions, and performing end-of-month reconciliations for all accounts. The Controller will ensure timely and accurate financial statements, support budgeting and forecasting, and provide strategic financial insight to leadership. This position is fully remote, but occasional travel for on-site meetings may be required.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Oversee and manage all accounting and bookkeeping functions for multiple entities.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Consolidate financial results across the childcare centers and management company.
- Maintain the general ledger, process journal entries, and reconcile all accounts at month-end.
- Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
- Record and categorize all income and expenses accurately.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Monitor cash flow and bank balances.
- Ensure proper documentation and record retention for all transactions.
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Partner with leadership to develop and monitor annual budgets for each center and the management company.
- Provide variance analysis and actionable recommendations to improve performance.
- Support financial modeling for new initiatives or expansion plans.
- Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and state/federal regulations.
- Oversee payroll accuracy and coordinate with HR/Payroll administrators.
- Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Serve as a financial partner to the CEO and Center Directors.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and banks.
- Provide clear and timely financial insights to support operational decision-making.
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior accounting or controller role.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and multi-entity accounting.
- Excellent Excel skills and ability to create financial models.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities remotely.
- Preferred
- Experience in the childcare, education, or service-based industry.
- Knowledge of state childcare licensing financial requirements.
- CPA or CMA certification.
Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually, based on experience.
