Freelance Video Producer (Science YouTube)

We are the makers of What If,  and we are looking for a talented Video Producer to  join our team. This is a remote, freelance contract, over the period of which you will be working closely with the Underknown What If team. NOTE: This role is only for permanent residents of Ontario, Canada. Applicants who don’t reside in Ontario and are not PR or Canadian citizens will not be considered. 

ABOUT YOU

• You geek out over science, space, and sci-fi. If your YouTube algorithm is a mix of black hole explainers and Star Trek fan theories, you’re in the right place.
• You’ve got a portfolio of editing and production work that actually shows what you can do, cinematic edits, exciting intros, clean cuts, punchy pacing, smart storytelling.
• You love crafting videos that inform and entertain. YouTube isn’t just a platform to you, it’s a medium you know inside-out.
• You’ve got great taste. You know what works visually and what resonates with viewers, and you can turn raw footage into something people want to watch to the end.
• You take feedback without flinching and communicate like a pro: clear, direct, no drama.
• You’re organized, meet deadlines like clockwork, and can juggle tasks without losing your cool (or your files).
• You live in Ontario, Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU BRING

• Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro
• Experience producing cinematic videos for YouTube
• Knowledge of After Effects, including tools like Element3D, VC Orb, Mocha
• Ability to work remotely without direct supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively and timely, working as part of a team

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with the Showrunner and our team of VFX artists to create engaging, high-quality content for YouTube
• Produce rough cuts, graphic design elements, sound design, colour correction, and deliver the final project
• Make creative video editing decisions to create a cinematic feel for the video
• Develop your own Essential Graphics in Adobe After Effects
• Create explainer graphics in Adobe After Effects
• Solve creative and technical problems
• Implement changes based on the Showrunner’s feedback
