Job Title: Remote Law Clerk (California-Barred) – Insurance Defense
Location: Remote
Job Type: Full-Time
Bar Admission Required: California
Position Overview
On Call Counsel is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Law Clerk licensed to practice in California to support our legal team in a full-time, remote capacity. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in insurance defense litigation, with a strong command of the discovery process and document review. This position requires excellent legal research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative legal team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct document review for relevance, responsiveness, privilege, and confidentiality in active insurance defense matters
Assist with discovery strategy, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
Organize and maintain case files and discovery logs
Review medical records, expert reports, and deposition transcripts
Draft legal memoranda, case summaries, and assist in preparing motions and pre-trial documents
Support attorneys with trial preparation and case strategy
Ensure strict adherence to court deadlines and procedural requirements
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active California bar license (in good standing)
Strong working knowledge of California civil procedure and discovery rules
Proficiency with eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, DISCO, Everlaw)
Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience handling bodily injury, premises liability, or property damage claims
