Job Description

First Stop Health is seeking an innovative and data-driven Director of Healthcare Practice Operations to lead workforce planning across all of our service lines, provider modeling including compensation strategy across our virtual care delivery teams. This role will serve as a key partner to our service line and product operators ensuring the right clinical resources are in place to meet demand, optimize performance and support scalable and sustainable growth for us to achieve profitability.

This is not a role focused on day-to-day staffing or scheduling. Instead, this person will partner closely with Clinical Leaders, Product, and Service Line Operators to provide the strategic frameworks and data insights they need to execute effectively — enabling the right number of providers, at the right times, with the right compensation structures to drive quality, efficiency, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Provider Cost Management:

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize provider pay structures and incentive models.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate employment types (W2 vs. 1099) across provider roles.
  • Oversee and optimize third-party provider network costs, ensuring cost efficiency with the internal provider network, and manage the cost efficiency of third-party tools (e.g., EHR systems etc.) used by providers.

Drive Cost-reduction Initiatives Tied To Clinical Operations, Such As

  • No-show and cancellation management
  • Appointment design (e.g., session length, visit types)
  • Recommend integration of tools, such as AI, to enhance provider efficiency and reduce costs

Workforce & Capacity Planning

  • Lead demand forecasting and clinical capacity modeling across all virtual service lines.
  • Partner with service line operators to align provider capacity with product demand and performance goals.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to proactively address workforce imbalances or shortages.

Provider Compensation Strategy

  • Design and refine provider compensation models that support productivity, quality, and engagement.
  • Collaborate with Finance and People teams to operationalize compensation plans and ensure alignment with company strategy.
  • Conduct regular market analyses to ensure competitive compensation offerings.

Data & Reporting

  • Build and manage dashboards to track provider utilization, capacity, productivity, and forecasting accuracy.
  • Deliver regular updates and recommendations to executive stakeholders on workforce trends and needs.

Project Management & Cross-Functional Execution

  • Lead project planning and execution across initiatives related to provider cost, capacity, and efficiency.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including clinical leadership, product, operations, finance, analytics, HR, and IT.
  • Track progress, drive accountability, and ensure alignment with company goals.

Product Partnership & Cost-Impact Analysis

  • Act as the operational liaison to the product team, identifying and advocating for product changes that impact provider efficiency and cost.
  • Assess cost implications of product feature updates and contribute to roadmap prioritization from a cost-efficiency lens.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in a healthcare operations role
  • 2-5 years of experience in workforce/capacity modeling and compensation design
  • Strong ability to successfully lead in a remote environment, including experience in performance management with preference for performance management of a provider network
  • Experience with relationship-building and establishing trust with providers
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and PowerBi platforms
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
  • Direct experience with workforce structure/capacity planning
  • Lean Six Sigma certified highly preferred but not required
  • Able to travel 30% of the time annually
