Social Media Community & Operations Manager

Square
Full time
Marketing and Sales
United States
Hiring from: United States
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

The Role

The Social Media Community & Operations Manager will sit on the Communications & Social team and report to the Head of Communications. You will oversee Square's voice on social media and help these communities grow — monitoring conversations, identifying important cultural moments, and driving brand-aligned engagement. You will understand how to get our online communities talking when it's quiet, and how to engage when it makes sense for Square to join the conversation.

You bring passion for internet culture, a thoughtful sense for what drives conversation, and a calm, strategic mindset—especially during moments of heightened visibility. You'll help guide our community voice, enhance customer and employee stories, support Square leadership with important messaging moments, and help ensure that we show up with empathy in moments that matter.

You Will

  • Be the frontline voice and ear to the ground for @Square, responding to and shaping conversation in real-time
  • Monitor and engage with social media conversations across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, X, YouTube, and any other emerging channels
  • Assess inbound mentions in partnership with our Customer Success team
  • Support in maintaining social media calendars, project management workflows, post publishing, and analytics gathering across platforms
  • Identify opportunities to insert Square into relevant conversations with speed and authenticity
  • Source high impact social content and act as a promoter for our Employee Advocacy program internally
  • Manage our social listening efforts and identify relevant moments that are impactful for our brand on social media
  • Think outside the box and contribute ideas — what are we not doing that we should be?

You Have

  • 3+ years of experience in social media management, with experience building and scaling online communities
  • Create relevant content that aligns with current trends and audience needs
  • Write and edit clearly and accurately
  • Design simple visual assets using existing Figma templates and guidelines
  • Approach challenges with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
