What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager for a full-time contractor role, with a strong background in Canadian payroll operations, to enhance and optimize our payroll processes. In this role, you will leverage your subject matter expertise to ensure compliance while maintaining and improving Workday Payroll configurations. Reporting to the Senior Director of HR Technology, Shared Services and Global Payroll, this role will manage our Canadian Payroll function.

What You’ll Be Working On

Optimize Payroll Operations

  • Lead Canadian payroll operations, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and enhance Workday Payroll configurations, including earnings codes, deductions, withholdings, and vendor integrations.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and scalable solutions to support business growth.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and training materials for payroll processes.

Ensure Accurate Payroll Execution

  • Oversee biweekly payroll accuracy and data integrity handled by third-party processors.
  • Ensure timely, compliant payments and filings (e.g., ROEs, T4s, and other statutory reports).
  • Execute off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and audit support.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for employee and manager payroll inquiries, delivering clear, employee-focused communication.

Collaborate & Communicate

  • Partner with Legal, HR, Benefits, and Finance to align on payroll processes and policies.
  • Serve as backup for US Payroll Manager and EMEA Payroll Analyst as needed.
  • Update training and communication materials to improve employee awareness of pay practices.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and benchmark payroll systems, policies, and procedures.

We’d love to hear from people with

  • 5-7 years of experience processing Payroll in Canada; experience with US processing is a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll taxation laws and regulations; working knowledge of USA, EMEA, India and Costa Rica a plus.
  • Experience with Workday and ADP required; experience with NetSuite and CloudPay desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA and or Payroll Certification preferred.
  • Experience managing outsourced global payroll processing teams is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance requirements and proven track record of maintaining excellent documentation.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with leaders and employees at all levels in the organization.
