Summary

With advanced proficiency, this position handles personal injury protection (PIP) litigation claims in a multi-state territory and directs and reviews litigation strategy and actions of defense counsel.  Other responsibilities include the evaluation of coverage and exposure.  Travel to mediation sessions, settlement conferences and trials may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts claim evaluations to determine coverage and exposure; analyzes PIP claims to determine if coverage is in place and evaluates medical billing exposures.
  • Adequately and accurately documents all pertinent file activity and assures claims coding is correct.
  • Applies appropriate insurance principals, statutory and case law and in other jurisdictional issues in the PIP litigation process.
  • Retains defense counsel and works with the attorney to develop a strategy and action plan to manage the litigation process with the goal of achieving an appropriate and cost-effective resolution.
  • Participates in mediation sessions, settlement conferences, negotiations and trials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalency is

required.

  • A minimum of five years of insurance experience handling auto and casualty claims;

Experience Handling Non-standard Auto Insurance PIP Claims Is Preferred.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain insurance adjuster licenses in all applicable states.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Insurance professional designation preferred (AIC, CPCU, SCLA).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in evaluations and negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate people and processes and get results through others.
  • Long-term case planning ability over a span of several years.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify a resolution at both a strategic and functional

level.

  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written and

presentation skills.

  • Ability to motivate high performance of the team and be a strong team player.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills.
