For over two decades, SOLID has fostered a company culture that prioritizes family and flexibility, placing a strong emphasis on work-life balance and recognizing the importance of employees' personal lives. Our culture encourages open communication, mutual respect, and understanding across departments, functional areas, and within teams.

Join us, and you’ll be part of a collaborative team where knowledge-sharing is highly encouraged, inspiring a dynamic and forward-thinking work environment that thrives on pushing boundaries so that we can continue to stay at the forefront of innovative workforce development initiatives that expand career pathways for our nation’s workforce. We’re trailblazers in creating digital tools that empower U.S. service members to advance their professional careers. Our core clients include various federal agencies and all branches of the US Military, as well as commercial, higher education, and non-profit organizations.

Position Overview

SOLID is seeking a skilled and mission-aligned Data Scientist to join our team. This role supports product development efforts by extracting insights from complex datasets, analyzing workforce and transition trends, redefining business rules, and informing data-driven decision-making.

You will play a key role in shaping analytical strategy across SOLID’s workforce solutions, influencing the design of both internal research and analysis methodologies as well as external-facing products. You will work closely with analysts, technologists, subject matter experts, and software developers to develop approaches for evaluating, aligning, and translating military occupations, credentials, and skills.

SOLID specializes in skills-based hiring solutions, digital credentialing, and workforce development initiatives—often in partnership with higher education institutions, military transition programs, and employers. Our work frequently involves education technology (edtech), digital learning tools, skills frameworks, and career readiness programs, all aimed at improving access, opportunity, and outcomes for adult learners and transitioning service members.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience working in SOLID’s specialization areas, including skills-based workforce solutions, credentialing systems, edtech platforms, or career readiness and transition-focused programs. Familiarity with emerging technologies such as digital badging, learning and employment records (LERs), AI-driven skills inference, or data interoperability standards is highly valued. A strong understanding of the intersections between education, employment, and technology—and a background in developing and refining internal research and analysis methodologies—is key to success in this role.

Responsibilities

Analytical Strategy & Methodology Development

  • Develop and apply research and analysis methodologies to support skills-based hiring and workforce development initiatives, ensuring consistency, scalability, and quality across projects.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify patterns, workforce trends, skill gaps, and the effectiveness of credentialing systems and prior learning assessments, particularly in military-to-civilian transition contexts.
  • Redefine business rules and occupational alignment frameworks by integrating quantitative data and qualitative insights to inform learner-to-earner pathway design and enhance the relevance of military occupations in civilian workforce systems.

Decision Support & Business Intelligence

  • Translate analytical findings into actionable insights and business requirements that inform the design of data-driven products, digital tools, and strategic program decisions.
  • Tailor data narratives and recommendations to meet the unique needs of diverse stakeholder audiences — including government, higher education, and workforce organizations — ensuring clarity, relevance, and usability.
  • Design, develop, and maintain compelling dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI or Tableau to communicate key metrics and support stakeholder reporting, program evaluation, and decision-making.

Data Engineering & Management

  • Extract structure, and manage complex datasets from relational databases (SQL), APIs, and cloud-based systems to support analytical workflows.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries with complex joins (INNER, LEFT, RIGHT), subqueries, and aggregation techniques to support data processing, wrangling, and integration efforts.
  • Contribute to data architecture discussions by applying working knowledge of data modeling principles, including relational schema design, normalization strategies, and the use of primary and foreign keys.

Applied Statistical Modeling & Machine Learning

  • Apply statistical methods and predictive modeling techniques (e.g., regression, classification, clustering) to assess the impact of rule or methodology changes, evaluate program effectiveness, anticipate user needs, and forecast future outcomes.
  • Use Python or R to manipulate data and build models with tools such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn, or TensorFlow.
  • Contribute to exploratory data analysis efforts and scenario modeling to guide product evolution and strategic planning.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for a Tier 3 (T3) background investigation for Position of Trust.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience applying data science to real-world problems, preferably in government, workforce development, military, or education sectors.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SQL, including the ability to write efficient, multi-step queries for large relational databases.
  • Experience using Power BI and/or Tableau for building interactive dashboards and reporting visualizations.
  • Familiarity with machine learning tools and methods for basic classification, clustering, or regression modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical findings into non-technical insights for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently to identify gaps, propose improvements, and drive data initiatives from concept to insight.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with military data (e.g., service records, training standards, occupational codes, etc.), credentialing frameworks, skills and competencies, and/or prior learning assessment methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile development environments and working alongside cross-functional product teams.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and governance best practices, especially in federal or defense-aligned contexts.
