Associate Lawyer

Angrove Law
Full time
Legal
Canada
Hiring from: Canada

Angrove Law is a small, virtual law firm that operates in Ontario predominately. Angrove law is a place that does law differently; we take a collaborative approach and provide upfront, flat fee pricing for set products. We provide friendly, personable legal solutions and send emails instead of letterhead. We mainly work in contract law with our main services being; marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, wills, and provide independent legal advice to other couples with their contracts. We also do some business incorporations, sperm donor agreements, basic employment agreements and other miscellaneous contract agreements.

We work virtually and have regular meetings as a team. We also have a CMO and a fractional CFO who we meet with regularly. We create helpful content on our website and on YouTube to demystify the law, and to help our future clients get to know us, our values, and feel confident in choosing our law firm.

We run nearly all of our clients through a similar process; consult call, signing a legal services agreement, identity check, client completes forms, we complete draft agreements, client meetings, revisions, and final review.

We wanted a law firm that was not only great for the clients but the lawyers that work there. We wanted to work in a friendly and calm atmosphere where efficiency is rewarded instead of unrealistic hours – so we made one!

Who you are - Associate Lawyer

You are a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario with 1 – 3 years of experience, please feel free to apply if you have more experience and are interested in the flexibility. You are a resourceful, positive, and organized person. You care about the quality of your work, and want to be proud of every contract you put your legal seal on.

You have a roll up your sleeves attitude, you're both resourceful and collaborative. As a small law firm you will be working on a variety of different aspects of our business. From writing legal articles on our website, to taking consult calls, drafting agreement, leading client meetings, attending marketing meetings, managing conflict checks, invoicing, and even working on streamlining our processes. We do not expect you to join as an expert in these areas, and will provide training and coaching, but we do expect you to learn and improve your own skills in a multi faceted way.

You recognize that by joining a small firm (for now!) you have the opportunity to grow with Angrove Law and become a pivotal part in our workplace culture, values, and opportunities.

What success looks like

By end of month 1 you are expected to get up to speed on our client process, and be confident to draft agreements accurately by yourself. For basic agreements, you should be able to understand the entire client process and work on it with support. You should also be confident in researching and writing legal articles, based on our content outlines that will be published on our website.

By Month 3 you will be trained on handling consult calls and be able to own the entire client process by yourself. You should be able to confidently complete any new client case, even if we do not have a precedent for the situation. That said, we are a team and will always work together on new and interesting files.

We love questions and curiosity! We are looking for someone who is looking for autonomy in their work but wants to collaborate and bounce ideas. You are expected to learn from your mistakes, and make improvements – this is a standard that we hold ourselves to and always strive to become better.
