The Role
Social Work England are the specialist regulator for social work in England, focused on enabling positive change in social work. Every day, social workers support millions of people to improve their chances in life. We are taking a new approach to regulating social workers in their vital roles. We believe in the power of collaboration and share a common goal with those we regulate – to protect the public, enable positive change and ultimately improve people’s lives.
Case examiners are independent decision makers that sit within the Regulation directorate. The case examiners are made up of a combination of lay case examiners (people who are not and have never been a social worker) and professional case examiners (a registered social worker). The team is supported by case examiner operations officers and led by case examiner operations managers.
Although case examiners work in pairs on a day-to-day basis, the team are actively encouraged to participate in wider discussions with the team to encourage ongoing learning and development and are required to maintain continuing professional development. We facilitate this by allowing dedicated learning & development time, monthly case examiner workshops, and monthly supervision as well as yearly mandatory training. Case examiners will be assessed on their ability to perform the role on a yearly basis via annual appraisal.
