Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $95,000 to $108,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!


Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled



Summary:


This leadership position oversees key functions in the People and Culture department related to the entire employee lifecycle, from onboarding to off-boarding. This role will focus on building strong HR processes for the organization, cultivating cross departmental relations, handling complex employee relation (ER) issues, and helping the organization strive toward being the best place to work through our Guiding Principles



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Encourage self-care and work-life balance through your own example. Work to build strong relationships with your team by creating communication loops through sharing and receiving honest feedback.

  • Leverage people analytics and support the work of culture survey results. Collaborate with the Culture Strategist to roll-out survey results, recommended focus areas organizationally, divisionally, and departmentally. Partner with Sr. Leadership in creating action plans to strengthen their team's experience.

  • Ensure the Guiding Principles are part of the daily experience when interacting with the human resource team.



Employee Experience


  • Establish consistent human resource (HR) related core-competencies and training for HR Business Partners to be able to support the staff in their portfolios with HR, ER and Organizational questions.

  • Establish and maintain systems, processes, and success metrics to support the growth of the HR Business Partners.

  • Manage a staff of 2 HR Business Partners

    • Support HR Business Partners with their personal and professional development.




Employee Relations


  • Build relationships with managers and sr. leadership to foster trust and ensure a positive employee experience reflective of the Best Friends culture and brand.

  • Oversee investigations related to employee grievances, complaints, or concerns as required. Supervise mediation when necessary.

  • Advise, counsel and partner with HR Business Partners and managers on policy violations, unlawful conduct and the disciplinary process as needed.

  • Collaborate with legal counsel on complex issues to minimize risk to the organization.

  • Oversee unemployment appeals and represent Best Friends in unemployment hearings.

  • Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company policies and ensure compliance with local, state, and governmental laws and regulations.




Skills and Experience:


  • Minimum 8-10 years of HR experience.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience dealing with complex ER issues.

  • Must be able to travel 25% of the time.

  • Must have undergraduate (associates or bachelors) degree in HR, psychology, or another related field.

  • SPHR, CERS, SHRM-SCP-LMR certifications a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, proactive in follow-up and follow-through; continual attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple competing tasks, projects and demands.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and effectively solve problems in a professional manner.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

  • Must be able to gain credibility with all levels of employees quickly and build relationships.

  • Willingness to learn new skills, systems and methodologies.

  • Fluent in Microsoft Word (MS), Excel, Outlook, MS Teams.

  • Knowledge of Workday and Trello, preferred.

  • Animal welfare experience a bonus




Physical Requirements:


  • Work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.

  • Valid driver's license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
