Job Summary:

The Director, Continuous Improvement will play a key role in partnering on the development and deployment of ArchWell Health’s Lean Operating System. The director will work closely with the VP of Market Enablement to identify key priority aspects of the operating system for early deployment creating a 3-5 year plan for full implementation to achieve key patient experience, quality, and financial outcomes. This leader will also be accountable for development of improvement and Lean capabilities in direct reports and establishment of the right level of education for front line colleagues and leaders across the organization.



The Director of Continuous Improvement will also advance the improvement methodology of FOCUS PDCA across ArchWell Health to incorporate everyday improvement in daily operations. Focus will need to be placed on creating space for innovation while spreading standardization across the enterprise even during rapid growth periods. Effective partnership with operational leaders across the company will be critical to success in this role.



Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for partnering on the development, deployment and technical aspects of the lean led design program in alignment with AWH’s Operating System and VBC Model

  • Engages with all levels of leadership in improvement activities related to new building infrastructure

  • Consults with senior leaders in providing analysis and mentoring on building design programming and implementation

  • Serves as a coach to market, senior and enterprise leaders on the implementation and deployment of organizational operating model while acting as a subject matter expert on the operating model

  • Leads team of Market Enablement colleagues, acting as a mentor and to foster an environment of professional growth and development for team members

  • Supports leaders in the identification, definition and solving of complex problems that materially affect center, market, and enterprise performance through the use of visual management boards, huddles, standard work, and other elements within the operating model

  • Partners with market and enterprise leadership and subject matter experts to assess needs in support of developing system strategies and improvements that drive organizational performance

  • Builds a culture of problem solving and continuous learning and enablement through the deployment of operating model

  • Supports curriculum development through observation, providing formal and informal feedback in conjunction with the Learning & Development team

  • Coordinates and leads key improvement initiatives while acting as a coach to internal teams; coordinating workshops, team trainings and “train the trainer” sessions, and openly sharing technical expertise related to operating model to ensure continued adoption of the systems and elements

  • Partners with and develops leaders and team members to ensure on-time completion of improvement projects as well as delivers on expected results

  • Analyzes current conditions of processes utilizing data and lean management (based on Toyota Production and High Reliability Organization principles) capability with leaders and team members

  • Applies FOCUS Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) thinking to achieve break through improvement in support of the business unit's strategic goals

  • Assists markets and centers in best practice standardization and spread, utilizing lean and change management methodology

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Demonstrated results highlighting excellence in Business Acumen, Emotional Intelligence, Critical Thinking, and Process Improvement

  • Ability to partner with leaders and stakeholders to proactively identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement.

  • Deep understanding and practical experience utilizing lean methodology and change management practices to drive results

  • Ability to coach and mentor cross-functional partners on Continuous Process Improvement, Lean principles, and project leadership

  • Track record of developing metrics to track performance, progress, and goal achievement

Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Industrial Engineering degree with healthcare experience preferred.

  • Process improvement experience with planning, project management, business analysis, and leadership role experience

  • Minimum of 7-10 years' process improvement experience working with executive teams

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.

  • Kaizen leadership experience preferred.

  • Process automation and/or change management experience beneficial.
