Dr. Kozak’s research group is involved in studying emerging viruses to better understand viral pathogenesis, develop novel diagnostics and evaluate countermeasures. Additionally, work focuses on the genomic epidemiology of respiratory pathogens to better understand transmission and improve surveillance.

Summary Of Duties

The individual will assist with multiple ongoing research projects in the lab related to virology. These will include both wet-lab based projects (eg. cell culture, animal studies) in both a BSL2 and potentially a BSL3 environment as well as patient reviews and analysis of patient samples. The individual will assist with reagent ordering and other lab operational duties as needed. Additionally, due to the nature of clinical trial work there may requirements for flexibility in availability (although this is infrequent and lab work is normally done Monday-Friday 9 to 5).

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in a relevant field is required. A CRC is considered an asset
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in clinical laboratory
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a research laboratory
  • Experience writing manuscripts and conference abstracts
  • Experience with molecular assays, specimen handling and processing clinical samples is required.
  • Willingness to be trained to perform animal work, and experience working with animals is considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines (eg. clinical lab protocols, biosafety, etc)
  • Demonstrate ability to train new members of a lab team in protocols
  • Experience writing REB and CTO applications

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science required (CRC an asset)
