Established in 2020, the Greenpeace Canada Education Fund (GCEF) is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to public education, scientific research, and environmental investigations. Our mission is to close the climate literacy gap by empowering Canadians with credible, accessible information on climate change, biodiversity loss, and renewable energy solutions.

Through our Greenspeakers program, we send trained volunteers into schools and the community to deliver interactive, thought-provoking workshops that inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

Who We Are Looking For

Are you a natural storyteller who lights up when sharing knowledge with others? We are looking for energetic, community-minded champions who are deeply passionate about climate justice, pushing against misinformation, environmental science, and education who can join our team for at least 1 year.

You Should Apply If

  • You love public speaking and know how to hold a room’s attention, whether it's a classroom of third-graders or a board of corporate professionals.
  • You have experience working with children and diverse populations, and you can seamlessly adapt complex topics into an accessible, engaging message for any age group or background.
  • You are a self-starter who will actively seek out new community connections and spaces to share our mission.
  • You care deeply about environmental issues and want to channel that passion into meaningful, solutions-oriented education.

Sample Responsibilities

As a Greenspeaker, your role will bridge the gap between environmental research and local community action. Your core activities will include:

  • Delivering Presentations: Facilitate interactive virtual and in-person workshops on critical environmental topics (such as protecting the Arctic, biodiversity loss, and sustainable systems) tailored to various grade levels (Grades 1–12) and adult audiences.
  • Community Tabling & Outreach: Identify local community events, eco-fairs, and festivals where GCEF can set up informational booths. Act as the face of the charity by managing tables and engaging face-to-face with the public.
  • Lead Generation & Networking: Proactively reach out to and coordinate with community organizations, corporate groups, non-profits, and local schools to book future presentation spots.
  • Feedback Tracking: Collect feedback from teachers and event organizers to help our internal team continuously improve workshop curricula and materials.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Availability to attend speaking engagements during normal school hours
  • Participate with other team members collaboratively and productively

  • Access to a vehicle or ability to travel to school and community locations
  • Commitment to GCEF's core values and mission.
  • Experience using Slack and availability to be an active participant in the app
  • Bonus Points: Existing personal or professional connections within local school boards, educator networks, corporate sustainability groups, or neighborhood community hubs in Toronto, Hamilton, Peel, London or Windsor.

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Professional Development: Receive on-the-ground experience with communications, presentation delivery, and community outreach.
  • Network & Community: Join a supportive, enthusiastic network of like-minded environmental advocates across Ontario.
  • Tangible Impact: Play a direct role in combating climate anxiety and disinformation by equipping local youth and communities with the tools to take action.

Location:
