The General Labourer plays a vital role in the restoration, warehouse, and moving operations, performing a variety of essential tasks that contribute to the success of restoration projects. This includes demolition, emergency damage mitigation, furniture moving, cleaning, specialized restoration services, and warehouse duties. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. Working both independently and as part of a team, the General Labourer contributes to BELFOR’s reputation for excellence by delivering high-quality results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate hand and power tools for activities like board-up, cutting, measuring, and installing job-related materials, as required;
- Maintain and organize warehouse equipment, inventory, and materials. Assist with equipment maintenance and minor repairs, ensuring all tools are in good working condition, as required.
- Set up and tear down scaffolding, poly containment enclosures, and other temporary structures for restoration projects, as required;
- Perform restoration activities such as demolition, cleaning, deodorization, and content repositioning for damage caused by fire, smoke, water, or other emergencies;
- Assist with tasks such as vehicle safety inspections, debris removal, maintaining warehouse cleanliness, and providing support for trades and apprentices, as required;
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite both on-site and in the warehouse;
- Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by conducting hazard assessments, maintaining organized and hazard-free job sites, and ensuring proper use, maintenance, and storage of tools, equipment, and PPE. Promptly report and document unsafe conditions or incidents, actively participate in safety training and inspections, and support organizational safety initiatives as directed by the Health and Safety Department;
- Assist with moving, dismantling, reassembling, and positioning furniture, equipment, and contents on-site or in the warehouse, as required;
- Set up and maintain safe and efficient work environments, including constructing safety enclosures and debris disposal, while adhering to BELFOR operating standards;
- Safely load, transport, and offload furniture, equipment, and job-related materials on-site or to/from storage locations, as required; and
- Any other reasonable duties as assigned.
i. Required:
- Highschool Diploma/GED;
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and mobility in confined spaces; and
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
- Driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle per ’s Auto employees’
- Training on BELFOR’s processes, procedures, systems, and equipment.
- IICRC certification(s) and other BELFOR-sponsored courses as required.
- Ongoing professional development through educational opportunities and skills enhancement to stay current with industry best practices.
- Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time)
- Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time)
- Access and mobility in tight spaces
- Fit Testing – half and full face mask as needed, annual certification required
- Working at Heights - over 5 feet, periodically
- Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling
