Estate Caretaker Couple (Live-In)

A family-owned property on one of the southern gulf islands in BC is seeking a year round, live-on-site caretaker couple. This is a salaried position for a mature couple seeking long-term employment.

The owner and his two small children use this 10 acre property part time (long weekends and in summer) and are looking for an easy going mature couple to help keep everything in tip top shape. The property includes 3 houses, two docks, workshop, out-buildings, with hopes for an organic vegetable garden.

Hours will vary according to the season. The spring, summer and autumn months are much busier with property maintenance and gardening. In the winter you would be free much of the time to pursue other interests.

As caretakers, you will live in a 600 square foot 1 bedroom beautiful cottage only steps from the beach and away from the principal residence as well as access to a vehicle. Watch eagles, seals, and whales from your living room window. A dock is available for your boat.

Duties:

Handyman/Gardening:

• Physically able to work outdoors and climb ladders.
• Handyman/carpentry knowledge and abilities.
• General gardening knowledge with experience mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, removing fallen limbs, tree pruning, weeding, flower/vegetable planting, and garden maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate mowers and other equipment including power and hand tools. Pressure washing.
• General home maintenance and experience with generators, plumbing, gutters, wood trim, fencing etc.
• Experience servicing trucks, mowers, and other equipment.
• Experience (or interest in) launching and caring for boats as the owner has a 30 foot rigid hull inflatable boat.

Housekeeping:

• General housekeeping experience. Capable of cleaning and upkeep of homes on the property
• Cleaning responsibilities to include:
• Kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, mudrooms, and porches.
• General dusting, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, grill, and fireplace cleaning.
• Laundry to include washing, drying, and folding of towels, linens, and owner’s clothing. May include some ironing.
• Coordinating with owner regarding grocery needs. May include some shopping and food prep/cooking.
• Driving owner/guests around the area and to and from airports etc may be required occasionally.

General Requirements:

• Couple should have experience in housekeeping and grounds keeping at a ranch, or estate.
• Must be legally able to work in Canada.
• Must have the ability to work independently, identify problems, and find solutions.
• Both parties must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a criminal background screen.
• Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Pets are discouraged due to the deer and wild animals that live on the property but may be considered if well trained.
• Note: smoking is not allowed in provided housing.
