The Original Cakerie is looking for a ReliefWastewater Treatment Operator forourLondon location.The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for running a small mechanical/chemical treatment plant designed to reduce Oil & Grease and TSS loadings in order to meet The City of London sewer by-law discharge levels. The incoming waste stream is a combination of miscellaneous discharges from floor drains and other operational processes from the main facility. Water from the equalization tank enters the treatment plant and first passes through a strainer screen to remove large particulate matter from the stream. The water then enters a large Dissolve Air Floatation Unit (DAF), where mechanical and chemical processes separate the wastes into a floating sludge. The sludge is skimmed off the DAF, collected and removed from site for further processing. The DAF effluent is discharged to the city sewer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (this is meant to be an outline, not an exhaustive list of responsibilities)

  • Conduct laboratory testing at various stages of the treatment process, including pH, colorimetric COD/phosphorus analysis, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) testing, to ensure process efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and operate wastewater treatment and production equipment, including pumps, valves, gates, gauges, meters, and SCADA systems, to maintain optimal process flow and performance.
  • Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot equipment to maintain product quality, achieve performance targets, and ensure all products remain within required specifications.
  • Observe and assess operating conditions, perform calculations, identify process deviations, and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specification sheets, and process documentation to support production and operational requirements.
  • Perform initial test runs and verify equipment functionality prior to full-scale production.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including digital scales and calipers, to verify product and packaging specifications.
  • Accurately complete data entry, maintain operational logs, trend process data, generate reports, and maintain BRC audit documentation and other required records.
  • Report quality or process deviations and collaborate with production, maintenance, environmental, and health and safety teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance, including equipment inspection, cleaning, and sanitation activities to ensure operational reliability.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Master Sanitation Schedules, safety standards, quality requirements, environmental regulations, and process water treatment requirements.
  • Safely use, store, and maintain company-supplied tools, cleaning equipment, and materials while following established sanitation procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, employee training, troubleshooting activities, and cross-functional communication to maintain operational excellence.
  • Manage waste disposal activities and support contract cleaning and maintenance services as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Completed post-secondary education in an environmental or chemical related discipline
  • Three or more years of job experience in water treatment
  • Currently holds an active OIT license
  • Knowledge of chemicals and comfortable working with exposure to cold temperatures
  • Knowledge of operational parameters and treatment process, mechanics and hydraulics of wastewater treatment
  • Capable of working independently while maintaining organization and applying sound judgment in decision-making
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is a requirement
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, climb stairs, and work with a sense of urgency
  • Must be willing and capable of undergoing training in working at heights and the safe operation of aerial platform equipment (e.g., Genie boom lifts, scissor lifts)
  • All other duties as assigned

Shift Summary

  • Must be available to work four to five shifts per week and have the flexibility to work between Monday and Saturday.
  • The shifts run for 8-10 hours with a 30-minute break added.

Schedule

  • Must be able to accommodate A-shift (various start times between 1:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.).
  • Flexibility to occasionally begin work at 8:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m. is required to meet operational needs

What We Offer

Pay Rate: While performing Production role, probationary rate per hour is $21.18 and full rate is $23.53

While performing Setup Operator or Wastewater Treatment Operator role, probationary rate per hour is $25.57and full rate is $28.42
