A Brief Overview

The Senior Vice President Business Development will be responsible for sourcing new real estate development, investment, and program management opportunities, as well as developing and cultivating strategic capital relationships. This position will serve in a senior, external-facing role, focused on expanding the company's pipeline, identifying new growth opportunities, and strengthening relationships with key market participants and capital partners. The role will have a national mandate, with a likely emphasis on Sun Belt markets and other high-growth geographies that align with the company's strategic priorities. Areas of focus may include Varcity opportunities, multifamily, mixed-use, student housing, program management, and other strategic real estate initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Business Development & Opportunity Sourcing
  • Identifies, sources, and originates new development, investment, and program management opportunities across target markets.
  • Sources opportunities across multifamily, mixed-use, student housing, Varcity, program management, and other strategic real estate sectors.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with brokers, landowners, municipalities, universities, consultants, developers, operators, lenders, equity providers, family offices, institutional investors, and strategic partners.
  • Maintains a strong pipeline of off-market and marketed opportunities.
  • Evaluates market trends, demographic data, competitive positioning, and strategic fit across target markets.
  • Identifies new markets, product types, and strategic partnerships that align with the company’s business plan.
  • Coordinates with executive leadership on pipeline management, market prioritization, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Capital Relationships & Capital Formation
  • Sources new capital relationships and cultivate existing relationships with lenders, equity providers, family offices, institutional investors, and strategic capital partners.
  • Assists leadership with debt and equity capitalization efforts for development and investment opportunities.
  • Participates in meetings with existing and prospective capital partners.
  • Supports the preparation of investment presentations, underwriting materials, project summaries, and other materials for capital partners.
  • Helps communicate the company’s pipeline, platform strategy, and investment opportunities to capital partners.
  • Provides insight into capital market trends, investor appetite, and potential financing strategies.
  • Strategic Leadership & Internal Coordination
  • Serves as a senior representative of the company with external stakeholders.
  • Assists in establishing and executing the company’s national business development strategy.
  • Provides market intelligence on economic trends, municipal issues, university relationships, competitive developments, and capital market conditions.
  • Works with executive leadership to assess the strategic fit of new opportunities.
  • Participates in internal investment discussions and provides perspective on sourced opportunities, market dynamics, relationship history, and strategic value.
  • Supports opportunities through early-stage evaluation, investment committee review, and capitalization, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with internal teams as needed to transition opportunities from sourcing and early evaluation into execution.
  • This position requires driving for the Company using either 1) a Company vehicle, at any frequency from Rarely to Constantly; or 2) a Personal or Rental vehicle to conduct Company business more than 50% of the time to perform work duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in real estate, finance, or a related field required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of real estate development, acquisitions, capital markets, brokerage, investment, program management, or related industry experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to source and originate real estate development, investment, or program management opportunities required.
  • Strong existing relationships with relevant market participants, including brokers, landowners, municipalities, universities, developers, lenders, equity providers, family offices, and institutionalinvestors required.
  • Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, student housing, senior housing, program management, or institutional-quality real estate projects required.
  • Familiarity with debt and equity capitalization structures required.
  • Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to operate independently while coordinating closely with the Chief Executive Officer andexecutive leadership team.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong strategic, business development, and relationship-buildingcapabilities.
  • High degree of professionalism, credibility, and judgment in external-facing settings.
  • Ability to originate opportunities that align with the company’s growth strategy.
