Summary

The Buyer is responsible for performing purchasing functions including purchase order processing, vendor bidding, invoice exception resolution, document retention, and customer relationship management. This role ensures compliance with institutional policies and supports operational efficiency across MD Anderson.

Major Work Activities

Technical/Functional Support

  • Maintain Purchasing Services queues within prescribed limits.
  • Request and review M.D. Buyline reports for orders ≥ $50,000.
  • Ensure HUB plans and vendor affirmation are completed for orders ≥ $100,000.
  • Process purchases within authority limits (currently up to $14,999.99).
  • Prepare, retain, and file documentation in compliance with document management policies.
  • Resolve invoice and receiving exceptions promptly.

Provide Direction

  • Investigate and take corrective action for material returns to vendors.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct price analysis and obtain supplier quotes for customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all Supply Chain Management policies and procedures.

Team With Others

  • Assist customers in obtaining pricing for capital equipment, consumable supplies, and services.
  • Understand customer operations and procurement needs to provide tailored solutions.
  • Coordinate receiving of goods with distribution services.
  • Demonstrate achievement orientation, decisiveness, collaboration, and strong communication skills.
  • Facilitate informal purchases and ensure bid tabs are completed accurately.

Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience: Three years of buying or supply chain experience. Certified Texas Purchaser (CTP) issued by the State of Texas within 18 months of entry into the job.

Preferred Experience: Purchasing experience, knowledgeable of accounting concepts, analytics/excel, customer service oriented. Must be able to learn quickly and adapt in a fast pace environment.

Work Schedule: This position is remote, but training will be a combination of Zoom, Teams and possibly in person.

Other Requirements: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
