Director of Communication and Employee Engagement


EXALTA is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Communication and Employee Engagement to elevate how we connect with, inspire, and retain our people. This role combines strategic communications, culture activation, and performance excellence to create an environment where employees understand our business goals, values and expectations, and can thrive.


You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive employee communications strategies, shaping the employee experience from onboarding through exit, structuring and leading DEI initiatives, driving engagement programs, and ensuring our performance management processes support both individual growth and business success. This role reports to the Chief People Officer.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Employee Communications (First priority)



  • Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy that drives understanding of business goals, values, and strategic priorities

  • Create multi-channel communication plans that ensure transparency, clarity, and alignment across the organization

  • Partner with ELT to craft messaging that resonates and drives action – in particular in the context of heavy Transformation (e.g., restructurings, operating-model adjustments, footprint transformation)

  • Write and produce compelling content including town halls, newsletters, leadership updates, and announcements


Employee Experience & Employer Brand



  • Design and enhance the employee experience from onboarding through offboarding, ensuring cultural integration and meaningful transitions

  • Lead the exit interview program, analyzing trends and partnering with leadership on retention strategies

  • Develop and activate the employee value proposition (EVP) internally, ensuring it comes to life in the day-to-day experience 

  • Define employee engagement survey strategy (tool, frequency, etc.)

  • Coordinate action plans to be implemented based on employee survey results across the organization. 

  • Measure progress (analytics per site, per function, etc.) and share on a regular basis


 DEI Strategy & Programs 



  • Develop and implement comprehensive DEI programs that advance equity and inclusion across the organization

  • Lead employee resource groups, DEI training initiatives, and inclusive culture programming

  • Track DEI metrics and progress, providing regular updates to leadership

  • Partner with talent acquisition and HR business partners to embed DEI into all people processes


Performance Management



  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of performance management processes

  • Train managers on effective performance conversations, goal-setting, and coaching

  • Partner with HR business partners to ensure performance management drives business results and development


Strategic Partnership, Culture & Execution



  • Serve as a trusted advisor to ELT on all matters related to employee engagement and culture – including communication coaching for Leadership

  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

  • Lead cross-functional projects that require collaboration across HR and the broader organization

  • Design and implement culture activation initiatives including recognition programs, and employee appreciation efforts

  • Partner with leaders to develop and execute action plans that address engagement insights


Qualifications


Required



  • 7+ years of progressive experience in employee engagement, internal communications, or related HR functions

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Organizational Development, Communications, or related discipline

  • Accustomed to international culture nuances and proven ability to navigate them

  • Proven track record developing and executing employee communications strategies that drive business alignment – from frontline workers to management levels

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with ability to craft messages for diverse audiences

  • Successful experience designing employee experience programs including onboarding, exit interviews, and engagement initiatives

  • Successful experience with culture programs including recognition, engagement surveys, and EVP activation

  • Demonstrated experience with performance management system design and execution

  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to DEI initiatives and programs

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to use data to inform strategy and measure impact


Preferred



  • Experience in high-growth or rapidly changing environments

  • Familiarity with engagement survey platforms and recognition technology

  • Experience with performance management platforms and tools

  • Familiar with industrial setup
