The Technical Director will be responsible for developing and driving the strategy for the Health Data Platform as well as guiding a highly effective engineering team to deliver scalable and reliable feature development for core platform applications. This is not a traditional engineering management role — while this role will have oversight over technical execution, critical strengths should lie in product strategy, stakeholder alignment, and technical program leadership. The Technical Director will work closely with senior leadership including the CEO, CTO, and other executive stakeholders to define, prioritize, and deliver high-impact technology initiatives. The ability to think strategically, communicate clearly, and align product vision with business objectives will be key to success.

Responisibilities:
- Establish, implement and drive the strategic technical direction of the Health Data Platform Features team by translating business goals into a coherent technical roadmap that balances short-term needs with long-term scalability and innovation
- Partner directly with the CEO, CTO, and other senior executives to define priorities, communicate tradeoffs, and report on progress
- Ensure the team is effectively assigned to Features development work, with a focus on quality, efficiency and effectiveness, to deliver on department and company objectives
- Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, and feature release cycles in collaboration with engineering leads
- Ensure that team members are correctly tracking hours for billing purposes. Monitor regularly to ensure proper utilization of time
- Manage day-to-day work priorities for the team and create best practices; work towards goals and KPIs used (or equivalent) to measure performance and maintain quality service and documentation within the team
- Create, maintain and collect relevant KPIs (or equivalent), provide regular feedback and reporting of metrics, to management in order to support decision making
- Create and maintain successful and strategic peer partnerships with other teams in HDP and cross-functionally (other products, human resources, finance, sales, marketing, etc.).
- Ensure that performance reviews are completed and up to date for each staff member on the team. This includes having clearly defined goals and objectives, communicating responsibilities, identifying competencies, and creating professional development plans
- Mentor, encourage, foster and support the team, providing day-to-day support to improve overall team performance. Regularly review interactions and build strong relationships with other teams and departments
- Foster a positive team culture of respect and professionalism, aligning each team member with the organizational competencies
- Accountable for ensuring that all working hours are accurately reported in the time tracking system on a daily or weekly basis, that the majority of (if not all) hours are tracked as billable and that the project management tool in Netsuite is properly and fully utilized.
- Tracking and reporting of billable hours is a critical aspect of project management and delivery to our customers and this is a major area of accountability
- 8+ years of experience in a software development organization, with hands-on exposure to modern engineering practices
- 5+ years of experience in a technical program leadership or engineering management role, ideally rooted in a software engineering background
- 5+ years of experience leading and managing high-performing software development teams
- Strong software development lifecycle (SDLC) experience; background in healthcare IT or experience in a high-growth tech startup is preferred
- Deep understanding of modern software development practices, cloud technologies, DevOps principles, and scalable architecture patterns
- Ability to guide architectural decision-making and ensure technical excellence across multiple teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain highly skilled engineering talent
- Proven success in managing executive stakeholders and driving alignment across cross-functional teams
- Exceptional team leadership and coaching skills, with experience resolving complex organizational challenges
- Competent in managing competing priorities and navigating fast-paced, evolving environments
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and storytelling skills — able to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, including C-suite
- Strong relationship-building abilities and a collaborative working style
- Excellent administrative and operational management skills to ensure consistent delivery and high-quality outcomes
- Experience with HL7, FHIR and or Healthtech is a huge plus
