Position Summary:
The Production Safety Manager supports the safe execution of film and television productions insured through Disney’s Occupational Health & Safety Program. Based in British Columbia, this role provides technical guidance, conducts risk assessments, and ensures compliance with territory requirements across the Canada provinces (e.g., WorkSafe BC, Ministry of Labor Ontario), and local health, safety, and environmental regulations. The Manager also acts as a thought leader in the sustainability space, building relationships with industry experts, participating in task forces, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility across productions.

This role is essential to maintaining Disney’s commitment to safety and risk mitigation in physical production. The Manager serves as a bridge between corporate safety strategy and on-the-ground execution, ensuring that safety remains a visible and integral part of every production.

The hiring range for this remote position is C$90,500 to C$147,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.

The Manager also acts as a thought leader in the sustainability space, building relationships with industry experts, participating in task forces, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility across productions.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Safety Operations
- Provide technical safety guidance to productions during all phases: pre-prep, prep, shoot, and strike.
- Conduct field safety audits and inspections of sets, workshops, and construction areas.
- Support third-party safety advisors in developing and implementing safety programs.
- Integrate sustainability practices into production departments (e.g., transportation, costumes, set design), pilots new technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
- Assist in establishing KPIs, tracks progress and provides department-level updates to ensure transparency and informed decision-making regarding safety and sustainability goals.
- Deliver safety inductions and training sessions for crew members, including Occupational Health & Safety Program (OHS) education.
- Facilitate occupational health and safety training (e.g., PPE, tool use, equipment inspections, etc.).
- Create and review risk assessments for potentially hazardous activities (e.g., stunts, SPFX, rigging).
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC, and other applicable Canadian safety regulations.
- Assist productions in vetting and appointing qualified safety advisors and technical consultants.
- Liaise with external safety, hygiene, and engineering resources as needed.
- Investigate and report injuries and incidents.
- Interface with regulators and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s or technical degree in management, engineering, safety, or film/TV production.
- Experience conducting field safety audits, safety inductions, and risk assessments in film/TV production or other safety-related field.
- Experience with occupational hygiene and
- Experience with occupational hygiene, environmental compliance and sustainability.
- Strong communication and training facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC, and other Canadian safety regulations.
- Preferred certifications: CIH, ARM, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of digital systems such as AirTable, Microsoft Suite, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and/or Project Management tools
- Skillset in technical writing and development of PowerPoints for presentations and educational training materials
- Works independently with moderate supervision from the Sr. Manager.
Regular interaction with the global safety team; final outcomes are manager-reviewed.
- Approval is required for travel and non-standard tasks; otherwise, autonomy is expected.
