Job Overview

The Vice President, Product Development is responsible for driving innovation and implementing best-in-class technological approaches to ensure seamless development, user experience, DevOps, and cloud hosting operations to support our literacy products for students and educators. The ideal candidate has a proven track record fostering collaboration across disciplines to build and scale technology architectures, QA processes, UX & design practices, and infrastructure.. We are looking for someone adept at driving their organization to achieve scalable portfolio growth, capable of creating lasting impact on student performance and educator effectiveness, and who excels at sharing ideas in a straightforward, compelling manner to gain commitment from others. This role will have a highly-visible presence amongst executives, company stakeholders, and customers.

The Vice President Will

  • Serve as a member of the Product Leadership team reporting directly to the SVP, Product
  • Apply the needs of Product Development & Design to the overall operating budget while upholding fiscal responsibility and accountability for all respective cost centers
  • Utilize in-depth technical knowledge and experience to scale development processes to meet the needs of a fast-evolving competitive landscape
  • Deliver key business communication with the ability to answer subject matter questions or concerns in a clear and broadly understandable fashion.
  • Work alongside Senior Leadership to ensure the company remains internally efficient.

Job Responsibilities

Technology & Engineering Leadership

  • Drive the adoption of emerging technologies by continuously evaluating and integrating leading solutions to enhance the organization’s technological capabilities and maintain a competitive advantage
  • Drive the organizational evolution to utilize AI/Machine learning to provide industry-leading data and educator insights for personalized learning
  • Implement forward-thinking development strategies that align with long term goals to drive innovation, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure codebases.
  • Guide best practices in agile development methodologies (SAFe), improving collaboration between engineering, design, and infrastructure teams.
  • Oversee end-to-end software development processes from architecture to deployment.
  • Partner with leadership to target and align technology investments with business objectives.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to enhance the work products of core technology teams in 3D animation, Speech Recognition, and AI/ML

DevOps & Hosting Strategy

  • Oversee DevOps and cloud hosting, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for efficient software deployment and iteration.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) for scalability and cost efficiency.
  • Advocate infrastructure as code (IaC) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
  • Steer site reliability engineering (SRE) efforts to minimize downtime and improve system resilience.
  • Ensure security best practices and compliance with industry regulations.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering, design, and DevOps teams.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Work closely with engineering, IT, and executive leadership to drive technology-forward strategies.
  • Present infrastructure and design strategies to stakeholders and leadership.

Performance & Optimization

  • Lead and manage the optimization of outsourcing critical path work to industry leading third-party vendors to maximize the capacity of internal resources and focus
  • Define and track key technology performance metrics, including system uptime, load times, and security posture.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to improve engineering efficiency, quality, deployment, and infrastructure costs.
  • Drive continuous improvement through testing, monitoring, and iterative enhancements.

Job Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in EdTech software development/DevOps, with at least 5+ years in a Vice President or equivalent executive leadership position.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and collaboration with both business and technical teams.
  • Exceptional administrative business acumen, including budget management, outsourcing management, and structured scaling of teams and processes
  • Experience in K12 industry strongly preferred, SaaS business experience beneficial
  • Background in cloud security, compliance, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Knowledge of frontend and backend best practices, experience in both Wed and Native App development; SAFe Certification or experience preferred
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building experience
  • Advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
