Our Data Design team is seeking a skilled Data Visualization Designer to join us. As a Data Designer, they will need to have a combination of data analytics skills and user experience skills. The selected candidate will be collaborating with data specialists (e.g. data analysts, data scientists) to understand business problems and desired outcomes and design data visualization products to enable data-driven decision-making. They will also work with teams across Lockheed Martin to continue developing the Data Design competency with tools, community-building, and consulting services.

Duties And Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Exhibit a degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness presenting large and complex data sets in a usable, understandable, and engaging manner.
  • Effectively document and communicate UX and visual design of projects using personas, wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, workflows, user stories, test dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Establish processes, templates, training programs, and tools supporting the design process for use by data analysts.
  • Create analytic dashboard mockups and final products in analytics tools.
  • Serve as a voice for the user, utilizing broad skills in both qualitative and quantitative user research and testing to facilitate a user-centered design process.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to develop solutions that effectively communicate data.
  • Develop thought leadership that continues to grow the field of Data Design.

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • 3+ years experience in relevant field (e.g. Data visualization design, UX design, UI design, Information Design, Design Thinking).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Visualization Design, Graphic Design, Information Management/Systems/Sciences, Information Design, UX Design, or a related discipline.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing relevant projects or case studies that demonstrate effective information design work (e.g. infographics, dashboards, website design, ux case studies, reports).
  • Proficiency with data analytics and/or visualization tools and solving business problems using data sets, (e.g. Tableau, BusinessObjects, Qlik, MicroStrategy, Power BI, D3, etc.).
  • Ability to document solutions in support of standards and best practices.
  • Ability to juggle multiple ongoing priorities and projects.
  • Work within the Agile workflow and manage projects through project management software.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills, business acumen, attention to detail, and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders and data analysts.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working with cross-functional, diverse, virtual teams.
  • Ability to use storytelling and visualizations within the realm of data analytics.
  • Knowledge of design thinking methodologies.
  • Knowledge of data visualization theories and best practices.
  • Experience with whiteboarding design tools such as InVision, Mural, Balsamiq, Miro, etc.
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
  • Knowledge of web design tools such as Adobe XD, WordPress, InVision, etc.
  • Knowledge of Agile development processes and tools.
  • Exhibit a degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness presenting large and complex data sets in a usable, understandable, and appealing way while working as part of an Agile scrum team.
  • Design user interfaces/experiences that align data insights with the users’ goals and needs within data analytics products (e.g., Tableau).
  • Passion for enabling others with tools and resources to excel in data visualization design, and for developing presentations to promote the field of Data Design.
