About the Role:

As the Financial Controller at VRIFY, you will be responsible for overseeing the full accounting cycle and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial results for a fast growing SaaS company. You will lead and manage the accounting team, own the month end closing process, ensure IFRS compliance, and seek continuous improvements in financial processes and efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Month-End Close & Reporting
    • Own and manage the monthly, quarterly and year end close processes.
    • Prepare and review internal financial statements and reporting.
    • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with IFRS
    • Perform detailed variance and trend analyses to inform strategic decisions.
    • Maintain and improve financial controls and closing checklists.
    • Prepare & review the reporting pack and MD&A
  • Team Leadership & Oversight
    • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing regular coaching and performance evaluations.
    • Review and approve journal entries, payroll, account reconciliations, month-end working papers, and other accounting work for accuracy and completeness.
    • Allocate tasks to ensure team efficiency and alignment with company objectives.
  • Accounting Operations
    • Oversee all aspects of the general ledger, including AR/AP, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and payroll accounting.
    • Maintain and enhance accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.
    • Collaborate with external auditors and manage the audit process.
    • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal financial regulations and tax filings.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting workflows.
    • Assist in the selection and implementation of financial systems or software upgrades.
Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • CPA designation
    • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years accounting work experience
    • Strong understanding of SaaS accounting principles.
    • Experience creating IFRS compliant policies and procedures
    • Experience with CRMs and accounting software (Salesforce, Xero, Microsoft Suite)
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage competing priorities
    • A continuous improvement and growth mindset
