Description

Avum is seeking a skilled and proactive Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team. In this fully remote role, you will be an integral part of the quality assurance team, focusing on developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks to support the Navy’s Appian-based Contract Writing System. You will collaborate closely with developers, QA specialists, and analysts to ensure that software solutions meet functional and performance requirements, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, reliable systems.

While prior knowledge of federal contract writing systems or regulations like the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is not required, you will have opportunities to learn these areas with team support and training. This position is ideal for someone passionate about software quality and automation, eager to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts to validate software functionality, performance, and security.
  • Collaborating with developers and QA team members to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Writing and executing test cases for various testing types, including regression, integration, API, load, and compliance testing.
  • Troubleshooting test failures, analyzing root causes, and working with developers to resolve issues.
  • Supporting manual testing efforts as needed to complement automation coverage.
  • Reviewing business and technical requirements to determine test automation needs.
  • Contributing to documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results.
  • Assisting in the selection and implementation of testing tools and technologies.
  • Continuously improving testing processes and advocating for best practices in test automation.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Clearance.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development in test automation roles.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with Selenium, Cucumber using Java.
  • Experience with FitNesse for Appian or similar framework.
  • Experience with test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., JUnit, TestNG).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing enterprise applications in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
  • Willingness to learn about federal procurement processes and contract writing systems.
  • Experience with performance testing tools like JMeter.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe development environments.
  • Appian Developer Certification
  • Knowledge of the open source Spring Framework for Java for tasks like dependency injection

Location: This is a fully remote position, requiring availability during core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours, Monday through Friday. The candidate will collaborate with external project team members and other Avum employees virtually, primarily using tools like Microsoft Teams. While the role is remote, occasional travel may be required for in-person meetings at government sites in Washington, D.C., or Avum’s office in Agoura Hills, California.
