At Avail CPA, we believe great work can happen anywhere. With over 90 years of experience and a growing team of 140+ professionals across Alberta and British Columbia, we help our clients and communities thrive through expert advice, genuine care, and innovative solutions.
We’re currently seeking a Remote Audit Supervisor to support our Lethbridge-based not-for-profit team. This role is ideal for a CPA (or someone in the final stages of completing their designation) with solid public practice audit experience and a passion for supporting organizations that make a real impact. You’ll help lead assurance engagements, mentor developing team members, and work closely with not-for-profit clients — all in a flexible, remote-first environment.
If you're looking to grow your leadership skills while doing meaningful work that strengthens communities, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
As a key member of our remote team, you will:
Audit Supervision and Execution
- Assist with the planning and coordination of assurance engagements for not-for-profit clients
- Oversee audit fieldwork while guiding team members through accurate, timely documentation
- Review work prepared by team members and offer constructive feedback to uphold professional standards
- Monitor engagement timelines and ensure alignment with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)
- Evaluate audit risks, flag potential concerns, and recommend opportunities for improvement
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare clear, accurate documentation including technical reports, correspondence, summaries, and presentations
- Communicate results and recommendations in a way that builds understanding and trust
Client Relationship Development
- Maintain strong communication with clients to understand their operations, challenges, and goals
- Collaborate with clients to identify improvement opportunities and support their long-term success
- Help not-for-profit organizations make the most of their resources — so they can make the most impact in their communities
Coaching and Mentorship
- Guide junior team members through real-time coaching and contribute to their technical and professional development
- Promote a collaborative, learning-focused environment within the remote team
Continuous Learning and Innovation
- Stay current with Canadian accounting and auditing standards, particularly those relevant to not-for-profit and public sector entities
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of audit processes and firm best practices
A Day in the Life
On a typical day, you might plan for an upcoming audit, conduct virtual audit fieldwork, review audit sections prepared by junior team members, connect with a client over Microsoft Teams to walk through audit requests, and wrap up by mentoring a junior team member preparing for their next milestone.
What We're Looking For
- A CPA designation or in the final stages of completing your CPA designation
- 3–5 years of audit experience in public practice, ideally with not-for-profit or public sector clients
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a remote work environment
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
- A dedicated home office with minimal distractions and the ability to store confidential information securely.
- Proficient in CaseWare, Microsoft Office, and cloud-based audit platforms
- Clear, professional communication skills — both written and verbal
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills that build trust and deliver value
- Genuine passion for supporting mission-driven organizations and creating positive community impact
What We Offer
- Competitive salary aligned with experience and responsibilities
- Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, and more)
- Flexible, fully remote work environment that supports work-life balance
- A collaborative team culture where connection and transparency matter — including virtual coffee chats, regular check-ins, and real-time collaboration
- Professional development and learning opportunities tailored to your career goals
- The chance to do purposeful work with organizations that create lasting community impact
- A dedicated, quiet home office or workspace with reliable internet — suitable for confidential meetings and focused work
