JOB SUMMARY: As the Senior Manager, Billing and Collections day-to-day operations that enhance our billing and collections capabilities. You will oversee all billing and collections efforts and make strategic recommendations and implement collections initiatives leading to improve cash flow for the company. Additionally, this position will provide strategic guidance to ensure accurate revenue reporting, including system and reporting recommendations to streamline and operationalize current processes and / or new contractual relationships or products.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Improve processes across the full billing and collections cycle including components of unbilled A/R but primarily focused on billed A/R
  • Review and interpret complex customer contracts to ensure ability to invoice, process and collect
  • Responsible for reducing accounts receivable aging on all contracts leading to improved cash flow
  • Drive automation efforts to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
  • Deliver clear, data-driven financial analysis and insights to leadership
  • Develop, maintain and improve standard operating policies and procedures for the billing and collections team and in collaboration with the revenue cycle team
  • Maintain and monitor a strong internal control environment, identifying and resolving deficiencies as needed
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure readiness throughout the year
  • Communicate and collaborate across teams to ensure billing and collections on time reporting requirements are met
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning
  • Manage the team responsible for billing and collections
  • Experience with hospital revenue cycle processes and multi-state or multi-location operations
  • Manage and collaborate with revenue cycle team for more efficient and effective overall billing and collections
  • Act as a key stakeholder in finance transformation, process optimization, and change management initiatives
  • Monitor and report on drivers of rate and collection variances as well as making recommendations for improvement
  • Ability to drive organizational change while aligning billing and collections functions with broader company objectives and strategic goals
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the monthly billing close process ensuring deadlines are met respective to the accounting month end close process
  • Champion department-wide goals and strategic initiatives
  • Manage interactions with external auditors for billing and collection efforts
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Revenue Cycle, IT Business Applications, Accounting, FP&A, and Legal
  • Administer and uphold all the Company’s values and policies and procedures
  • Continuously work towards the Company’s goal and vision

Additonal Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver training content for both billing and collections and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Assist training and educating the business on impacts of billing and collections and rate reporting in to improve the budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Ability to assess staff performance and provide feedback, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to develop and present regular reports on billing performance, AR aging, write-offs and key metrics to executives and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess billing data, identify trends, and present actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education And Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, preferred but not required
  • Substantial knowledge of hospital revenue cycle processes
  • 7+ years of progressive billing and collections experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Prior experience in hospital or healthcare billing, collections and regulatory compliance
  • Must demonstrate technical proficiency and the capability of performing at an intermediate or advanced level with respect to the Microsoft Office Suite of products with an emphasis in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills, or similar software applications.

Physical Requirements

This position requires periods of time in which sitting, standing, use of hand and foot motion, vision, hearing, summarizing, focusing with frequent interruptions along with other physical, sensory, and cognitive sensory functions are required.
