About The Role

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) at Rocketship Public Schools plays a vital role in fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture. Reporting to the Director of HRBP, this role is responsible for partnering with school and regional leaders to deliver strategic HR support, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and promoting employee engagement and development. The HRBP acts as a trusted advisor to managers, providing guidance on performance management, employee relations, and HR policies, while also leading initiatives to improve HR service delivery.

This position requires a proactive and service-oriented professional who can navigate complex employee relations issues, support organizational change, and build strong relationships across the organization. The HRBP will also leverage data and HR systems to inform decision-making and contribute to the continuous improvement of HR practices aligned with Rocketship’s mission and values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related fields
  • At least 1 year of HR Business Partner or Generalist experience
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR certification preferred
  • Deep commitment to Rocketship’s mission to eliminate the achievement gap
  • Strong understanding of employment laws, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance (familiarity with California law preferred)
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Google Suite technology
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, resolve conflicts, and make strategic decisions
  • Experience working effectively in a matrix environment and collaborating across teams
  • High level of personal integrity, cultural awareness, and inclusivity
  • Ability to travel within the Bay Area approximately 30% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and effective HR support to school and regional leaders, including guidance on performance management, employment policies, and legal compliance
  • Act as a strategic partner to managers, advising on talent development, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness
  • Lead and facilitate employee relations processes, including investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions
  • Manage and support employee terminations and other sensitive HR matters with fairness and adherence to policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and ensure secure handling of HR documentation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with managers, staff, and cross-functional teams to promote a positive workplace culture
  • Partner with the Talent team to support hiring, onboarding, promotions, and transfers
  • Identify managerial development needs and deliver targeted training sessions to enhance leadership capabilities
  • Drive organizational development initiatives, including change management, structure design, and succession planning
  • Utilize HR analytics and metrics to inform decision-making and measure the effectiveness of HR programs
  • Lead or participate in special projects aligned with organizational goals, including HR system implementations and process improvements
  • Support internal communication efforts to promote HR initiatives and organizational updates
