Description: Assistant Sustainability Officer
Highland Pellets is a renewable carbon business which owns and operates two wood pellet mills for export to the European market. Located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Highland is expanding and plans to build additional pellet mills in the US South East.
As Assistant Sustainability Officer you will be responsible for supporting Highland’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) in the effective administration and implementation of Highland’s Sustainable Biomass Policy across the Highland Pellets business and any of its affiliated companies.
Duties Will Include
Prepare for and assist sustainability audits:

As Assistant Sustainability Officer you will be responsible for supporting Highland’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) in the effective administration and implementation of Highland’s Sustainable Biomass Policy across the Highland Pellets business and any of its affiliated companies.
Duties Will Include
Prepare for and assist sustainability audits:
- Assist with Internal and External Audits
- Gain competency with forest sustainability and chain of custody standards
- Stay up to date with interpretations and guidance on standards
- Assist with ESG initiatives
- Manage sustainability claims
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of spreadsheets
- Timely and effective upkeep of document directory
- Assist Controller with billing and enquiries
- Provide assistance to the Wood Procurement Manager and monitor track and trace system
- Creation and Upkeep of Highland procedures
- Manage upkeep and development of Highland policies and supplier contracts
- Monitor and calculate Highland’s Carbon emissions along the whole supply chain
- Upkeep of Greenhouse Gas Database and provide GHG reports as required.
- Monitor and review policy updates internationally
- Conduct analysis on regional social issues and environmental issues, such as biodiversity and forest growth
- Education: Master's degree in Sustainability or related field, or Undergraduate with 5 years’ experience
- A passion for sustainability and appreciation of the need for transparency and accuracy in the supply chain
- Deep analysis capacity
- Self-guided work ethic
