Overview
Stellar Virtual Schools is seeking an experienced and dynamic Special Education Supervisor for 6th-8th Grade. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the special education instructional program for our middle school students, ensuring the provision of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) within our virtual setting. The Supervisor will manage a team of special education teachers and support staff, ensuring high-quality virtual instruction, compliance with state and federal regulations, and effective collaboration with general education and families.
Essential Duties
For W-2 employment, Stellar Virtual is an at-will employer. This means the employee and Stellar Virtual can terminate the employment at any time, with or without cause or notice, as legally permitted. Overview
Stellar Virtual Schools is seeking an experienced and dynamic Special Education Supervisor for 6th-8th Grade. The Supervisor will manage a team of special education teachers and support staff, ensuring high-quality virtual instruction, compliance with state and federal regulations, and effective collaboration with general education and families.
Essential Duties
- Program Leadership & Supervision (Virtual Middle School):
- Supervise, evaluate, and mentor a team of 6th-8th grade special education teachers and support staff (e.g., instructional aides, related service providers where applicable) in the virtual environment.
- Provide instructional leadership and guidance on best practices for delivering specialized instruction, accommodations, and modifications effectively in online learning platforms for middle school students.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture among virtual special education staff.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all special education processes and documentation for 6th-8th grade students (including IEPs, FIEs, ARDs, 504s) are fully compliant with federal (IDEA), state (Texas Education Code, TAC), and local district policies, with specific attention to virtual school guidelines.
- Conduct virtual file reviews and periodic observations of online instruction to ensure fidelity of IEP/504 implementation and adherence to quality standards.
- Monitor critical timelines for evaluations, ARD meetings, and service delivery for all students on the middle school caseload.
- IEP/ARD Facilitation & Support:
- Oversee and support case managers and teachers in the development, review, and revision of comprehensive and compliant IEPs for middle school students.
- Provide guidance on complex ARD discussions, eligibility determinations, and placement decisions, ensuring parent involvement and resolution of disagreements in a virtual setting.
- Serve as a district representative at challenging ARD meetings or when escalated support is needed.
- Curriculum & Instruction Alignment:
- Collaborate with the Special Education Curriculum Specialist and general education curriculum leads to ensure special education instruction is aligned with TEKS and effectively differentiated for middle school students in the virtual environment.
- Support teachers in integrating technology, assistive technology, and innovative digital resources to enhance learning for students with disabilities.
- Professional Development:
- Identify professional development needs for middle school special education staff related to virtual instruction, compliance, evidence-based practices, and specific disability areas.
- Plan, develop, and deliver targeted virtual training sessions to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, addressing concerns and fostering positive home-school partnerships in a remote context.
- Serve as a liaison between district administration, campus leadership, special education staff, and families for 6th-8th grade special education matters.
- Data Analysis & Program Improvement:
- Analyze program data (e.g., student progress, compliance metrics, service delivery fidelity) to identify trends, areas for improvement, and inform program development for the middle school special education program.
- Contribute to district-level planning and initiatives to enhance overall special education services.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a Special Education Teacher.
- At least 2-3 years of proven leadership or supervisory experience within a special education program.
- Demonstrated expertise in federal (IDEA, Section 504) and Texas state special education laws, regulations (TAC), and policies.
- Extensive experience facilitating and leading complex ARD/IEP meetings.
- Significant experience with special education data management systems and state reporting (PEIMS).
- Prior substantial experience in a virtual or online school environment is essential, with a deep understanding of virtual instructional delivery and associated challenges/best practices for students with disabilities.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and team-building skills in a remote environment.
- Exceptional knowledge of special education pedagogy and instructional strategies applicable to middle school.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, adept at virtual presentations and difficult conversations.
- High level of proficiency with educational technology, learning management systems, and virtual collaboration tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
- Unwavering commitment to student success, equity, and compliance.
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Special Education required.
- Texas Principal or Supervisor Certification, or other relevant administrative certification, highly preferred.
