About The Role
Barrel is seeking a Design Intern to join our team for a 3–6 month paid internship. This is a remote internship. Applicants based in the U.S. and Canada are preferred due to time zone alignment and communication logistics, but we welcome applications from all eligible candidates. As a Design Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to work within an existing design system, contribute fresh ideas, and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

About The Role
Barrel is seeking a Design Intern to join our team for a 3–6 month paid internship. This is a remote internship. Applicants based in the U.S. and Canada are preferred due to time zone alignment and communication logistics, but we welcome applications from all eligible candidates. As a Design Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to work within an existing design system, contribute fresh ideas, and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creating designs for internal projects and client deliverables.
- Research design trends and consumer behaviors to inform creative decisions.
- Work within established design systems while contributing innovative ideas.
- Schedule and participate in design reviews, take notes, and engage in internal and client meetings.
- Recent graduate or currently enrolled as a Junior/Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Design, Graphic Design, Advertising, or a related field.
- Previous design internship experience within an agency is a plus.
- Strong understanding of layout, color, typography, and web design principles.
- Proficiency in Mac OS, Adobe Suite, Figma, Google Suite, Zoom, and Slack.
- Familiarity with Canva and internal tools such as Asana, Harvest, and Pitch.
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS is preferred but not required.
- Enthusiastic and adaptable, willing to contribute at any stage of a project.
- Proactive in seeking answers, conducting independent research, and learning new design techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to confidently express ideas while also being receptive to feedback.
- Interest in eCommerce/Retail is a plus.
