The Opportunity

A rare opportunity has arisen as our previous Director of eCommerce Operations transitioned into a newly created role within eCommerce—part of our evolving digital strategy and a reflection of the growth at MEC. Now, we’re looking for the next leader to take mec.ca to the next level.

As the Director, eCommerce, you’ll lead a team responsible for driving revenue growth and operational excellence for mec.ca. You’ll identify and execute quick win sales drivers, profit-maximizing eComm opportunities, and new business opportunities for mec.ca that align with our strategic goals. You’ll also create and execute cross-functional project plans, prioritize weekly work, track performance, and measure progress toward objectives. Your strong project management and hands-on leadership will help us achieve our goals and take our business to the next level.

Location: This role can be hybrid from MEC’s head office in Vancouver or remote within Canada

As The Director, ECommerce Operations You’ll Be

  • Identify and execute quick win sales drivers, profit-maximizing and new business opportunities that align with our strategic goals.
  • Create and execute cross-functional project plans.
  • Lead the search and project manage the delivery of new technologies and systems that will improve operational efficiency.
  • Build the tools required for your team to operate at the highest level of effectiveness, including reports, workflows, reference materials, templates, and more.
  • Prioritize weekly work, track performance, and measure progress toward objectives.
  • Dive into the week-to-week work, collaborating closely with teams to address their needs and deliver results.
  • Identify and prioritize inefficiencies, enhancements, and fixes to drive continuous process improvement, supporting business growth.
  • Make upstream improvements while constantly helping teams deliver current workloads.
  • Work seamlessly across functions to improve process, service delivery, communication, and expectation setting.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for the team, guiding them in project management, time management, and cross-functional collaboration and negotiation.
  • Strategize and structure the team for eCommerce expansion.

What You Bring

  • 5-8 years in eCommerce, preferably in a leadership capacity and with a direct-to-consumer retailer or brand
  • Experience planning and forecasting an eCommerce business, including weekly and ad-hoc reporting and analysis
  • Experience successfully identifying and executing projects in an omni-channel environment, including developing compelling business cases for internal buy-in and clear project plans for execution.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional project management skills, including a track record of handling multiple tasks and projects at a time, prioritizing workload, effectively delegating and thriving in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Experience with agile workflows.
  • Analytical with the ability to identify and track key performance metrics and make data-informed decisions.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work seamlessly across teams and functions.
  • Proficiency in identifying and improving operational workflows.
  • Understanding of eCommerce market trends and business development opportunities.
  • A strong understanding of modern eCommerce content management systems and/or order management systems and supporting workflows
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity.
  • Empathetic people-first leadership style with experience managing and mentoring teams.

This is a permanent position with the anticipated salary range of $128,000 to $160,150 base + bonus. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity.
