We are seeking a compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team on a contractual basis. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing psychiatric assessment and treatment recommendations to adult individuals who have experienced traumatic psychological injuries in the workplace. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals in need of psychiatric care while enjoying the flexibility of a contract-based role.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of individuals referred to the Traumatic Psychological Injury Program.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessment, patient history, and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
- Recommend evidence-based psychiatric treatment, including medication management, psychotherapy, and other therapeutic interventions, to address patients' mental health needs (*Psychiatrist does not have a treating relationship with the clients)
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and primary care providers.
- Participate in case conferences to review cases, discuss strategies, and provide support to colleagues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and any other relevant information in compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice, including maintaining patient confidentiality and report writing adapted for third-party funders.
- Contribute, as required, to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and other activities aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of psychiatric services.
- Medical degree from an accredited institution, with specialty in Psychiatry
- Board certification in Psychiatry
- Current licensure to practice Psychiatry in the province of Newfoundland
- Strong diagnostic and assessment skills
- Experience in trauma-related disorders preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to adhere to contractual obligations and work independently
- Familiarity with workers' compensation systems and regulations is desirable but not required
