Overview

The Chief of Staff, supporting the Chief Medical Officer (“CMO”), will work closely with the CMO, the Value-Based Care team and the Lucina team to manage business priorities, ongoing projects, analytics and market support. The Chief of Staff will work on behalf of the CMO as needed and will work towards creating a more cohesive business function.

Responsibilities

Strategic and Clinical Alignment and Communication:

  • Operationalize the CMO’s vision: Translate clinical, VBC and operational strategies into clear initiatives with owners, timelines, and metrics.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination: Facilitate collaboration and connect workstreams cross-functionally between clinical, operations, analytics, and product teams.
  • Support care model innovation: Help design, pilot, and scale new care delivery models or quality improvement efforts.
  • Track and communicate impact: Work closely with Communications to outline, draft, and research communication events to support the President.
  • Project and Initiative Management
  • Manage clinical initiatives portfolio: track progress on key programs like quality metrics, safety initiatives or health equity projects.
  • Own meeting cadence: Work closely with the President’s Executive Assistant to prepare and prioritize upcoming commitments and calendar management for the CMO.
  • Ensure accountability: Monitor and facilitate progress of business goals and targets and manage function project / program calendar and ensure deadlines are being met.
  • Build strategic and operational presentations and supporting materials for functional, executive, and board meetings.

Executive Enablement:

  • Build reports and meeting materials: Formulate and compile succinct reports for CMO to understand where projects/initiatives are and what needs to be addressed; advise on situations that require additional support or escalation.
  • Own structure and deliverables: Create for staff and other key meetings, preparing agenda, assigning and following up on action items.
  • Represent CMO when needed: Attend meetings, capture major take-aways, and work with the clinical and Lucina teams to ensure appropriate follow up.
  • Triage and filter requests: Prioritize what gets to CMO’s desk and manage upward communication from clinical and operational leaders. Maintain an inventory and track the development of critical path projects pertinent to the President requiring their awareness and involvement.
  • Work closely with the President’s Executive Assistant to prepare and prioritize upcoming commitments and calendar management for the CMO.
  • Work closely with Communications to outline, draft, and research communication events to support the President.

Special Projects:

  • Operate at a tactical, strategic and operational level: Handle the oversight of projects that do not neatly fit within the organizational chart or that fall between departments or leadership areas of responsibility.
  • Complete additional special projects on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Senior Leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Healthcare / Physician experience preferred
  • Strong project management skills, including attention to detail, persistent follow up, organization and discipline
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities, with expertise in analyzing complex issues, developing actionable plans, and following through to ensure successful execution
  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of the market, competitors, technology and the sustainable operating results required
  • Communication skills include helping to refine the leader’s message and to ensure it is heard and acted on by the appropriate audience.
  • Sophisticated blends of emotional intelligence, judgement, diplomacy, discretion and political astuteness to interact with direct reports of the executive and team members with composure and confidence
