About The Job

As a QA Specialist for Minor Safety and Exploitative Content (MSEC), you will be essential in maintaining Discord’s Trust & Safety policies to safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly minors, from exploitative content. Your role will ensure the accuracy and consistency of content moderation decisions, driving continuous improvement in Discord’s community standards.

You will work closely with various teams, providing feedback to moderators and offering insights into policy alignment, process improvements, and evolving content standards. Your work will be grounded in empathy, precision, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming space for all users.

Responsibilities

• Review and Audit Content: Assess moderation decisions related to minor safety and exploitative content to ensure alignment with Discord’s Trust & Safety policies.
• Collaboration: Partner with moderators, analysts, and policy teams to spot trends, gaps, and inconsistencies in content review processes.
• Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to moderators to improve decision-making and enhance consistency in enforcing policies.
• Calibration Sessions: Lead and develop calibration sessions based on audit findings to ensure policy adherence and support moderation efforts.
• Cross-functional Teamwork: Work with MSEC and other teams to influence policy updates and optimize internal tools for better scalability.
• Reporting: Regularly track and report on quality trends, offering insights on potential risks, successes, and improvement opportunities.
  
  

What You Should Have

• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in quality assurance, content moderation, or trust & safety, preferably within a tech or online platform environment.
• Expertise in Safety: A deep understanding of minor safety issues and exploitative content trends within the online space.
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze large datasets and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
• Communication Skills: Proficient in written and verbal communication, able to convey findings clearly and effectively to team members.
• Moderation Tools & Processes: Familiarity with moderation tools and audit processes, along with an understanding of metrics-driven performance tracking.
• Resilience: Ability to handle sensitive, sometimes distressing, content with calm and resilience.
• Adaptability: Flexibility to support other QA initiatives, including automation, machine learning, and other forms of exploitative content.

• Experience with global teams and awareness of cultural sensitivities.
• Proficiency in SQL or similar data analytics tools.
• Multilingual capabilities to support international moderation.
• Experience driving cross-functional initiatives or influencing policy changes in a Trust & Safety context.
• Familiarity with machine learning systems or automation tools in content moderation.
  
  

Additional Information

• Content Sensitivity: This role involves regular exposure to sensitive and potentially traumatic content, including CSAM and other forms of exploitative, hateful, or violent material.
• Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST, with occasional flexibility for global coordination.
• Salary: $108,000 to $121,500 (base salary) + equity + benefits. (Note: This range applies only to the US and may vary by location, experience, and qualifications.)
