Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Health Information Management (HIM) Assistant to join our team in a remote, full-time capacity. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of patient health records within our electronic health record (EHR) system, Epic. Schedule

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week
  • Flexible hours worked between 7:00AM - 6:00PM
  • Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Scanning & Indexing:
  • Scan and digitize medical documents for integration into the Epic EHR.
  • Ensure documents are clear, legible, and properly indexed.
  • Document Upload & Management:
  • Accurately upload and file scanned documents to the correct patient records.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date electronic files for easy retrieval.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct regular reviews to verify accuracy and completeness of uploaded records.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and healthcare regulations.
  • Collaboration & Support:
  • Work closely with other HIM staff and healthcare professionals to resolve discrepancies and locate missing records.
  • Respond to document-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality:
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines and organizational protocols to ensure data security and patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in ongoing compliance training and educational programs.
  • General Administrative Tasks:
  • Support the HIM department with additional administrative duties such as organizing, filing, and retrieving records.
  • Contribute to smooth departmental operations and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • High level of accuracy in document management tasks

Preferred

  • Associate degree or certification in Health Information Management (HIM)
  • Experience with Epic or other EHR systems
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare documentation practices
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily a remote desk-based role
  • Occasional lifting of documents and supplies up to 25 lbs may be required
