About The Role

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be the technical lead for several key initiatives for the Cloud Architecture and Reliability (CAR) Operational Intelligence team, known as the COIN team. The COIN team portfolio is a mission critical team that leverages data engineering for operational execution. The team owns and operates critical data pipelines for AWS/Azure/GCP costs and GitHub as well as other third-party data from shared engineering systems. The COIN team also owns the Confluent Catalog of internal metadata, which connects all the systems for automation and reporting use cases.

What You Will Do

  • You will be responsible for guiding the vision, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and enabling a high-performing engineering team to tackle complex Engineering operations.
  • You will own multiple dashboards/reporting assets, engage with Data Engineering teams, VP Level Leadership, Directors and TPMs to implement standard solutions across Confluent

What You Will Bring

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with query optimization for large-scale datasets
  • Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Beam, Dataflow, Spark, Flink) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Cloud Composer)
  • Expertise in designing and implementing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for operational and analytical use cases
  • Solid programming skills in Python, Java, or Golang
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance in cloud environments
  • Ability to drive technical direction, mentor engineers, and influence architectural decisions
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Experience with multi-cloud data architectures and technologies
  • Experience working with streaming data and real-time processing is a plus
