As a Technical Lead (Back End), you will lead the build of key technical projects that further the company's products and platforms. You will drive quality outcomes for our customers by combining strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems, research and tackle complex challenges, and lead the solution design and development of key projects that advance our mission and align with our broader engineering goals.
You will collaborate closely with peers, product, design, and leadership to build outstanding products and features for the Deputy platform, delivering services to millions of users and businesses, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations.
You wake up every morning knowing with confidence that the work you do, from the user-facing experiences to the backend APIs, is being used to power 100,000 workplaces and the livelihood of millions of users worldwide.
Please note, while this role is remote, candidates the successful candidate will be required to be based in or relocate to British Columbia for the duration of the role.

The pay range for this position takes into account multiple factors that are all considered to determine an individual candidate’s starting pay. These factors include but are not limited to: market factors, experience, technical and non-technical skills, education, certifications, and other business acumen. Responsibilities
- Partnering with Product managers, designers and other internal and external stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions that align with Deputy’s overall architecture.
- Work cross-functionally across distributed teams globally to solve complex problems, ensuring technical alignment and delivering solutions that drive value for both users and the business
- Make technical decisions and deliver solutions for high-performance, quality and, scalable systems
- Mentor and guide engineers to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Design, Implement and deliver software solutions for product features, ensuring quality and performance
- Break down complex problems into iterative milestones that deliver value to users incrementally
- Write clean, modular and efficient code following best practices
- Ensure systems include monitoring, observability and fault tolerance
- Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Build alignment across teams to deliver on shared goals
- 6+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years as a senior engineer.
- Proven track record of delivering customer-facing features in collaboration with Product and Design teams.
- Proficiency in PHP or Go (highly advantageous).
- Experience with frontend frameworks like Vue or React, and strong JavaScript skills (highly advantageous).
- Strong expertise in API design (REST, gRPC, Protobuf, OpenAPI).
- Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture (highly advantageous).
