The Role

Narcity Toronto is looking for an experienced News Writer – Toronto to join our editorial team. This writer will play a vital role in covering public-interest announcements, ensuring our readers are up to date on critical developments such as policy changes, transit updates, consumer recalls, and other impactful local notices.

We are seeking someone with a deep understanding of Toronto's unique culture and issues, coupled with a flair for writing engaging and digestible content that resonates with our audience.

What You’ll Do

  • Research & Verification: Independently research and fact-check announcements and notices to ensure accuracy.
  • Content Creation: Write and publish a minimum of 5 high-quality articles daily in Narcity’s signature tone, ranging from 200-600 words.
  • AI Integration: Utilize AI tools transparently to streamline content creation for the Notices section.
  • Collaboration: Work with editors to align coverage with Narcity’s editorial standards and maintain stylistic consistency.
  • Trend Monitoring: Stay informed of public notices, press releases, and community updates to identify and craft relevant stories.
  • Fact-Checking & Quality Control: Ensure all published information is accurate and well-cited.


Who You Are

  • Experience: 1-4 years in digital journalism or content creation, ideally in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of Toronto’s news, culture, and public affairs.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with content management systems and openness to using AI tools for workflow optimization.
  • Writing Excellence: Strong ability to distill complex information into clear, concise, and engaging articles.
  • Time Management: Thrive under tight deadlines, delivering high-quality content in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability: Skilled at quickly pivoting between breaking news and evergreen content.

Position Details

  • Type: Full-time, remote-first with optional office access in Toronto.
  • Salary: $50,000 – $65,000 CAD annually, based on experience.
  • Schedule: Consistent availability between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM (EST), five days a week.
