Environmental Scientist

Environmental Scientists aid the railway in keeping negative environmental impacts to a minimum. They gather samples and observational data to conduct tests in a lab, to identify ways to minimise the environmental impact of the railway. What does this role involve?

Typical Duties Include

• Collecting and analysing environmental data, such as air and water quality, soil composition and the presence of pollutants
• Conducting environmental impact assessments to evaluate the potential effects of human activities on the environment
• Developing and implementing strategies to manage environmental problems
• Advising and consulting with government agencies, businesses and other organisations

Qualifications

• STEM subjects at GCSE grades A*-C
• A-Levels in relevant subjects
• Environmental science or relevant Bachelor’s degree

• Level 6 Diploma or equivalent Degree Apprenticeship in Environmental Science or related subjects
