RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position Summary

Department / Research Program: Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program

Project: Measuring Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Responding to the Needs of Indigenous Women and Girls in a Global Context (lay title)

The project is co-led by an international team representing community organizations, researchers, and people with living experiences with HIV. It includes Nigeria, Guatemala, Nepal, India, New Zealand, Peru, and Canada. The project's objective is to develop training and policy-related materials related to SRHR for Indigenous Women (those who self-identify as a woman or girl, inclusive of cis Women, trans Women, Two-Spirit, femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer, and non-binary people) that are relevant at both the global and local level.

We will achieve this objective by establishing evidence-based global SRHR metrics using an Indigenous community-based research framework. The primary activities for this project will include in-country surveys and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), local, country-specific, and international analysis, and integrated knowledge translation at all levels. In doing so, we will build capacity among Indigenous Women and allied supporters, including self-identified Indigenous men and boys (inclusive of cis, trans, two-spirit, non-binary people) to be change agents for Indigenous Women's SRHR.

Reporting relationships: This position will be guided by the Global Research Project Manager and will be managed by Carrie Martin with additional support from the research team members for Canada.

General Duties

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the research team in designing and implementing research protocols, tracking the progress of research activities against planned timelines and milestones,
  • Develop data-gathering tools for focus group discussions (FGDs), surveys and participation in traditional land-based activities,
  • Develop and conduct surveys and FGDs in different areas of Canada in collaboration with local Indigenous communities, participate in outreach events in each community as needed,
  • Implement all aspects of data collection and source documentation for the study to ensure the quality and integrity of data.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Facilitate ongoing communication among the Canadian team, and with the Global Research Manager,
  • Work with the community advisory committee members for project-specific activities in Canada,
  • Co-Manage community research associates (CRAs) to assist in all research-related tasks,
  • Support the recruitment, screening and ethical engagement of study participants,
  • Transcribe and process data for analysis using various tools including data analysis software such as Qualtrics,
  • Support data analysis, including thematic analysis of qualitative data and quantitative analysis in collaboration with study participants and CRAs,
  • Maintain an awareness of new developments and trends in Indigenous SRHR and Sexual Health,
  • Support knowledge dissemination activities through the co-creation of research presentations and posters, project summaries, report writing, manuscripts for publication, and other KT products (i.e. toolkits).

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, gender studies, public health, social determinants of health, international development, or another relevant area of practice,
  • Preference for applicants with a graduate degree,
  • An equivalent combination of education, leadership and/or research training and experience will also be highly sought after and considered.

Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent, related research experience, including project management working with multi-disciplinary research items.

Required Skills

  • Excellent writing and reporting skills,
  • Proficiency in English. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is an asset,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $43,316.00 - $80,425.80.

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm

Work Site: Remote
