Title: Technical Writer
Location: Remote location, preference Ontario, Canada
We are seeking a technical writer with strong writing skills and a broad familiarity with computer networking concepts, cloud and virtual environments. This writer will document Riverbed network performance management products using Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Word. The candidate will work largely independently in a quickly evolving engineering environment.

The candidate will work largely independently in a quickly evolving engineering environment.
What You Will Do
- Compose customer-oriented text based on studying specifications, interviewing developers, and hands-on exploration of products.
- Create technical content following the principles of topic-based authoring to optimize the help system user experience and to provide opportunities for single sourcing and content reuse.
- Plan and manage the document development process from the beginning through product release.
- Develop realistic schedules and reach project milestones on time.
- Maintain good communication with product management, engineering, quality assurance and support subject matter experts to avoid surprises and ensure timely delivery of high quality user documentation.
- Minimum of 3 years technical writing experience.
- Minimum of 1-year technical writing experience in computer networking.
- Solid command of technical writing for complex software and hardware, including a strong interest in perfect grammar and attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of FrameMaker.
- Experience documenting graphical user interfaces.
- Some experience with command line interfaces.
- Highly flexible and adaptable with the ability to quickly pick up and use new names, labels, terms and conceptualizations of product functionality.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including listening effectively, interviewing and gathering information from sources at all levels in the organization, and working with all levels of staff.
- Ability to carry on productive discussions about complex issues fully and clearly in email exchanges.
- Good judgment in identifying solutions to both technical and business problems.
- Can successfully revise priorities and schedules as project requirements change.
- Strong team player.
- Technical writing experience with virtual (ESXi, Nutanix, Hyper-V) and cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure).
- Concept-level familiarity with routers, switches, LANs, WANs, TCP/IP, NetFlow, SNMP, QoS, SSH, SSL, and packet header fields.
- Experience documenting software APIs.
