Eligibility Specialist
Fully remote position with a U.S. based company.
The Eldercare Resource Planning (ECRP) Eligibility Specialist provides clients with personalized assistance to achieve eligibility for Medicaid Long Term Care (LTC) benefits for individuals over the age of 65 or permanently disabled.
The role includes conducting a thorough assessment of the applicant's financial status to identify the most effective pathway to qualify for benefits applicable to nursing homes and Home and Community Based Service waiver programs. This position will report to the Medicaid Team Manager and collaborate with the Application Support Specialist.
The ideal candidate will have experience in case management and financial/estate planning strategies aimed at quickly achieving eligibility, including assisting clients with the implementation of financial planning tools, in accordance with Medicaid LTC policies.
A high comfort level with math, analyzing financial calculations and the ability to quickly learn a variety of remote productivity tools is essential. Above average computer proficiency is required and previous remote work experience is preferred.

What You Will Do
Under the direction of the Medicaid Team Manager, the Eligibility Specialist will handle a caseload of up to 40 clients, concentrating on pre-application eligibility spend-down strategies, from the initial client onboarding stage until eligibility readiness. Responsibilities include:
- Initiate the onboarding process for new clients by conducting a comprehensive review of their Intake Questionnaire, extracting financial information pertinent to the Medicaid application, and inputting it into state-specific Google Sheets with pre-formulated criteria to ensure precise eligibility criteria
- Based on these calculations, and state guidelines, create a customized eligibility plan for each client
- Review digital documents received by client to ensure Medicaid LTC compliance
- Learn, understand, and research both federal and state Medicaid LTC regulations to ensure that the intended planning strategy meets the eligibility guidelines for the applicant's state or county
- Meet regularly with the client via phone and email to guide them step by step through the eligibility planning process
- Collaborate with the Application Support Specialist, caseworkers, Business Office Managers and other related agencies to confirm that the application is being processed correctly and within required timelines
- Become proficient with company productivity tools to manage cases in a remote work environment (CRM database, Google Docs, Adobe PDF editor, etc)
- Track and notate all case details using Insightly CRM (client relation management database)
- Schedule meetings with clients and other team members as needed
- Follow company data security policies to ensure client information is secure
- Attend weekly staff meetings to stay informed about processes and procedures
- Additional case management responsibilities as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- English fluency and professional written and verbal communication skills are required
- Knowledge of general Medicaid eligibility and application process is required. Understanding of Medicaid long term care experience is preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of financial assets, such as comprehension of income and assets and a clear understanding of what is a countable or uncountable resource for Medicaid purposes (IRA's, life insurance policies, etc.)
- Ability to function effectively within a team framework, adhere to instructions, and be responsive to guidance provided by your Team Manager
- Responsible “self-starter” who keeps commitments to deadlines
- Able to handle a heavy workload when required to meet deadlines; ensures tasks are completed punctually or communicates promptly with the relevant individual regarding alternative arrangements.
- Proficient project management skills and ability to manage your caseload tasks effectively
- Working knowledge of Adobe editing programs, Microsoft excel and Google apps is essential
- Ability to engage with clients on a personal level and capable of explaining strategies in simple and understandable terms
- Demonstrated comfort level with math and problem solving
