Job Description
The Senior Geologist/Geological Engineer is required to establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with Clients, and Technical Staff. This position is also responsible for implementing all planning, scheduling and co-ordination required to execute and control a project or campaign.

Job Description
The Senior Geologist/Geological Engineer is required to establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with Clients, and Technical Staff. This position is also responsible for implementing all planning, scheduling and co-ordination required to execute and control a project or campaign.
- Operations
- Prepare and write technical reports as per National Instrument 43-101.
- Implementing novel methodologies in conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies and existing operation projects.
- Strong knowledge and experience in operations that include drilling campaign, mines planning, project planning, scheduling and controlling of mining operation, contract mining, and the management of open cut mines in high rainfall areas.
- Use of modeling software that can include Genesis, Gems, Surpac, Datamine, much Excel
- Ability to manage a field team such as drillers and technicians.
- Supervise crews and contractors’ work activities.
- Manage all aspects of drilling programs.
- Familiarity with generating and developing geological models.
- Establishing and maintaining client relationships.
- Ability to compose clear and concise technical reports.
- Communicate all significant issues relating to operations, environmental management and safety.
- Possible travel to other SGS laboratory locations in Canada or overseas on either short-term assignments or longer-term assignments.
- May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
- Education: Baccalaureate degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
- Experience: At least 12 years of experience in the field of geology.
- University degree in a Science or Engineering related program with a strong preference in a Geosciences profession (Geology, Mines, Mineralogy, Environmental Mineralogy, Soil Science etc.).
- A minimum of 5 years technical experience in a geosciences related profession with some aspects of business management/personnel management.
- Expert working knowledge of the mining and minerals industry.
- Registration as a Professional Geologist or Engineer is a requirement for employment as a Qualified Person (QP) for the NI 43-101.
- Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage people.
- Capable of operating without being under close supervision.
- Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Some positions require proficiency of other languages besides English (French, Spanish, Russian, etc.).
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
- Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook, AutoCAD).
- A solid understanding of MS Project Management and Oracle applications would also be an asset.
- Proficient with using one of the following specialized software (GEOSTAT, GEMCOM, SURPAC, DATAMINE, SURPAC MINEX).
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
- Having a valid and up-to-date passport as travel is expected.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
