Job Overview

We are in search of a dedicated and certified (or in the process of certification) Science Teacher specializing in Earth Science, whose passion for education will motivate and enlighten high school students. The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional planning abilities, instructional skills, and classroom management competencies, alongside a strong commitment to continuous professional development. Reporting to the Principal, the educator will collaborate with peers across various disciplines to deliver a well-rounded and stimulating educational experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Earth Science and its significance in students' lives.
• Develop engaging and impactful lessons that adhere to current standards and, where applicable, Regents exams.
• Integrate technology to cater to diverse learning requirements and enhance instructional delivery.
• Create clear, systematic, and sequential unit and lesson plans.
• Work collaboratively with specialists to tailor instruction and assist diverse learners.
• Connect new content to prior knowledge, aiding students in grasping the broader context.
• Employ diverse teaching strategies, including cooperative learning and collaborative tasks, to engage all students.
• Utilize effective questioning methods to encourage critical thinking and active class participation.
• Regularly assess student comprehension and adapt instructional approaches to ensure academic success.
• Provide varied explanations and illustrations of concepts to meet the different learning needs of students.
• Hold each student accountable for their educational journey.
• Implement both formal and informal assessments to track student progress and inform instructional decisions.
• Utilize teacher-created and standardized assessments to evaluate student performance.
• Deliver timely and constructive feedback on both verbal and written assessments.
• Maintain organized records of student progress to inform decision-making and generate accurate reports.
• Continuously monitor student development and modify teaching strategies to foster improvement and comprehension.
• Clearly communicate lesson objectives, expectations, and instructions to students.
• Cultivate a nurturing and respectful classroom atmosphere promoting students' emotional and social well-being.
• Build supportive, positive relationships with students by listening attentively and responding to their needs and interests.
• Encourage student participation through consistent communication and academic support.
• Establish a structured classroom environment that minimizes distractions and fosters learning.
• Set clear behavioral expectations and collaborate with students and parents to sustain a productive classroom setting.
• Manage classroom transitions effectively and handle emergencies as they arise.
• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student success and share effective teaching strategies.
• Uphold a professional demeanor, adhering to the school’s dress code and ethical standards.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities through workshops, conferences, and academic courses.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in Education or Science is preferred.
• NYS certification in Science (or equivalent) is preferred.
• A minimum of two years of high school teaching experience is preferred.
• Experience in urban or non-traditional school environments is a plus.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
